Can I send a basic email (to be viewed on computer not another mobile) by sending a SMS text from my mobile?

I have an old mobile - Siemens A50, with Virgin and Vodafone pay as U go SIMS.

I would prefer a service available through Virgin or Vodafone (can't find one), or free, but don't want to get any spam or bogus messages.

Hi capsicum,

It's not currently possible to send a standard text message to an email address.

You can send up to 1000 characters as a MMS to an email address.

To do this, compose a new MMS and instead of inserting an image, just simply type your message. When you're asked to enter the number of the recipient, simply enter the email address then click send. The recipient will also be given the opportunity to reply free of charge. The message will cost 15p on Vodafone as it's classed as a long text message.

I'm not sure if other networks support this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.
Problem is that I don't think I can send a MMS from my phone as it is a few years old and fairly basic.
What I am looking for (don't know if this exists) is a service with a number that I can send a text to, with the first line the email address, that will put the contents into an email and send it over the web.

Take a look at http://www.connectotel.com/sms/mmail.html.

M-Mail is a free service from Connectotel allowing GSM mobile phone users to send e-mail to any Internet e-mail user. Registered users can make use of features such as Reply path, Signature, Aliases, Memo and SMSstore.
The service has not always been reliable and when I used it a few years ago it was often down overnight but it is free. Use Google to search for many other alternatives.

When I googled - I found lots of webpage forms that would send a SMS text (which is the wrong way to what I want), but I didn't find this.

Cheers, that is what I was looking for, will give it a try.

Erm... if you're after sending basic text to an e-mail address, why don't you just send an e-mail? I mean, you have internet access

Perhaps this will help:

http://help.yahoo.com/help/uk/mobile/mobile-10.html

Vodafone.net seems to provide the service you require i.e. to send a text to an email adddress. Costs same as standard network rate and are included in any bundle.

You can do a similar thing with O2 using mmail.co.uk, but all messages whther made or received are charged for (10p I think), which could be a problem is someone starts spamming you. With O2/mmail.co.uk, the charges are considered premium rate so not included in any bundle package.

The A50 has WAP - how about using that?
