Free BT calls though there broadband

This is being talk about at the DSL and Dial-up Internet thread but thought I would post here. It seems that slowly everyone with BT and on broadband will slowly get the chance to upgrade to the basic free evening and weekend broadband talk service if they got a BT line and broadband.
It seems BT are slowly trying to stop customers moving to other services like Talk Talk by offering little free extras but the handset to go with the service is not always free for some but you can use your own. BT say in the long run you better getting a BT handset to go with the service. What do you all think. Im to get the Broadband Talk as of next week and It will work like a second line in the house and give me free evening and weekend calls.

You have to sign up for BT Total Broadband (the new name for the packages) and for a new 18 month contract even if you already have BT Broadband and even if you are past the first 12 months.

You get cheaper BB for the first 6 months (£9.75 instead of £17.99 in the case of Option 1) but, if you want their 'hub', it'll cost £50. The 'hub' thing is going to be the centre of their future offerings - TV by BB etc.

How many of you have actually upgraded/bought the BT Hub.....is it worth upgrading from the ordinary BT options that are currently out there.???? Is it any good? I like the idea of the wireless router.....

Opinions appreciated before i order the BT Total (Hub thing)

Thanks

I received my hub.

Very easy to set up
It looks good.
VOIP calls are very easy to make as I have my dect phone plugged into the hub.
I just use the phone as normal and it makes a VOIP calls. If you dial 5 first it routes the call over your normal Land line number.
If you call either you land line or VOIP number the phone attached to the hub rings.

I was due to get a free hub phone that is linked wirelessly to the hub. However BT are out of stock so sent me a free dect phone as an apology. The hub phone will be sent in 6-8 weeks and I get to keep the dect phone.

As per my soft phone post you can use BT soft phone which is very similar to skpe so I can make free calls when in hotels and receive calls to my VOIP number when away from home.

I get free and weekend calls and that’s the only time I make calls.

All in all I am very happy.

The Voyager 220v that BT sent me and was easy to set up and make the first call. Calls thought the BT Talk do seem a little clearer than the normal landline at times. I had a minor prob with my 220v for the Talk service and had to phone BT and they was very helpful. We dont make many calls during the day but if we have to we can dial 5 to go though the normal line or use the corded phone at the bottom of the stairs. Its mostly the weekend that we use the phone and the odd evening. So its good we can now get free evening and weekend landline calls and now if im phoning home I phone the Talk number as its free from my 02 mobile.

If you upgrade to Total Broadband, can you cancel the £11 line rental?
