Homechoice Copy Protection
Cornucopia
24-06-2006
I've been getting problems with HC picture interference over the past couple of days. Tried everything, but can't get both normal channels AND VOD to play properly with the same setup (through a DVD recorder). (Now I've messed around with it, I can only watch VOD with the DVD recorder turned off).

Phoned Customer Services and apparently they've changed the copy protection mechanism and my setup is no longer supported. Thanks a lot!

Anybody got any suggestions as to how the "Fog" copy protection they have works and why it interferes with my DVD?

If you haven't already, try swapping the two SCARTs round on the back of the box.

the 'fog' issue should not affect your ordinary vod viewing via your set up if it worked ok before, to make such changes (and i cant see why) they should, out of courtesy (if nothing else) publicised this information

The changes have had the opposite effect for me - we had an engineer out not so long ago as VOD content did not play properly - he said it was due to their encryption not being compatible with certain brands - our TV was apparently one of these brands - since the changes our VOD works fine now..........

Yes - that's what their CS told me.

I had the set-up through the DVD because the VOD didn't originally work with my TV directly - it had stripes.

And no, this is Homechoice (same for Sky, Freeview, NTL) - they don't tell you if they are making a change that may affect your set-up. We're only the customers, after all!

no feedback on what is now different?
sounds about right, what is strange is that for a communication company they dont manage to effectively and customers are just an interruption.

I have had the same problem and swapped the scart lead for one of a higher quality and problem solved.FYI Homechoice have now reverted from FOG2 TO FOG1 because of issues...shame they cant inform customers of what they are doing!!
