Dmre55 bargain?

Richer Sounds are selling off the last of their stock of DMRE55 recorders for £80. Presumably not multiregion at that price but looks good value. Any opinions? Worth a look or not?
They sell the DMRES10 for £119.

I rang our local Richer sounds 3 weeks ago about one as it said they had two in stock and was told the machines had no instructions or remotes. Said that is why they are so cheap. Said they could probably order me a remote but it would cost me. I never bothered.

Thank you, Rosemary,
Good idea, I've just phoned locally and got a similar story.
I feel a distinct cooling of interest.
Perhaps the £119 DMRES10 would be a better bet.

I've just picked up a sealed box from Boots marked down to £72.99. This was sourced via the Folkstone store so no idea whether it's just there or other stores also. Very few seem to stock this anyway & not on the web.

Sounds as though you've got yourself a considerable bargain! I'll look in our local boots next time I pass.

I just phoned the manager of my local branch & asked if they could get one transferred from Folkstone - & they did!

Must be quite old stock considering how long the ES10 has been around but as long as it's sealed I guess that doesn't matter. I only wanted it to archive from a PVR.

What do you mean sealed boxes? Also how many have they got, I want one!

I mean as in unopened, brand new, never been used as opposed to a customer return with bits missing as per RS. My contact in Folkstone said they had half a dozen as of last Friday. At least one of those was a return because he returned it! (didn't like the limited media support).

Give them a call, there's a branch locator with numbers for the stores at www.boots.com.

What is the main difference between the DMR-E55 and the DMR-ES10? Tuner? Recording media?

Manuals for both are available here.

Thank you Crocodile.
Sadly although the DMRES10 manual loads the DMRE55 locks up the browser each time I try to read it. I've tried several browsers without success.
Bit academic anyhow since my local Boots can't or won't talk to Folkstone.
However they say the DMRES10 will be on special in July so I'll wait and see what happens. I just want it for downloading from Toppy to DVD so either Panny would do.

If you have a Toppy why do you want to transfer to DVD using a DVD recorder rather than use a pc and keep the extra quality?

Simple laziness, really. I don't want the bother of carrying the Toppy up to the pc when I need to transfer some stuff. A little box permanently in place would be easier. Yes, I know...another control stick...and all that.

Try saving the pdf to your PC, then opening it in a standalone version of Adobe Reader. For some reason, this has never failed me yet, whereas opening pdf's from inside a browser is a hit and miss affair at best. Especially if you're not up to date on your Reader version (now 7.0.8, I believe)

Ah right.

If you have a home network you could add a slug (Linksys NSLU2), i find it a much better option than the provided Altair software.

Then you can have your pc and toppy at opposite ends of the house. I believe there is even a wireless network version which can be setup....

Thanks for the suggestion. Reader's up to date sadly; it never happened before.
I'll try as you suggest.

Might just work. My signal's very good downstairs and it would probably cost no more than the Panny.
