I'm running 6 TAPS in Autostart (TAP Commander1.0, TF5000 Display 1.29, eit2mei 7.1, DescriptionExtender 1.4, Remote Extender 1.2 & MyStuff 4.51) and have noticed no difference in remote response with the new firmware.

I was running with mcgCYRResume until this morning and may go back to it dependant on how it all pans out. But that's another subject entirely...

Jag's does seem to be causing some problems; the default setting for its background scan of the EPG is very short (2 seconds, one user found!), and that seriously impacts on performance.

Indeed - this is the cause of my "sluggishness" too. I've actually turned off background scanning (go over 60s and you get an "Off" option), but in general people seem to be getting relief by sticking to the higher setitngs.

Hi!

Anyone know where I an download and manually install this update from? Or do I have to wait for an OTA?

Cheers,

JellyFish!

As in the link on the previous page: http://www.toppy.org.uk/static/bastilleRelease.html

All the information is there; if you aren't a registered member of the Toppy forums, there's a thread in the Firmwares section at http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/ which explains the sign up and download procedure.

The firmware isn't available elsewhere are the moment.

I've hung back for a few days before commenting ... great results, standard EPG is now pretty ok and not something we have to make excuses for.

Still using MyStuff EPG because I prefer the look and feel - also good keyword based recording timers. But then thats the beauty of the Toppy, don't like EPG, just load one of the half dozen or more replacement ones !

What version of Mystuff are you using ? Some of us who upgraded to the latest (4.51) version have been suffering from box crashes and have had to revert back to 4.5 . I stress this has not happened to everyone , but they are debugging 4.51 at the moment.

Yes BobD is clearly working hard at 4.52 this very minute so hopefully problems will soon be sorted. I suspose in meantime anyone who has not upgraded to 4.5 might be advised to wait although 4.51 is actually working fine for me with Bastille.

Just out of interest, and this applies to all OTA firmware updates, what is the legal situation regarding these eg. what if someone (for whatever reason) prefers to not have an update? (they may not want their equipment to change from when they purchased it)

I don't think there's a legal issue at all, frankly. The box doesn't update software unless you tell it to, so I can't see why there would be one.

In a hypothetical situation where a box did update without any user prompts or intervention, I would suspect - though I'm not a lawyer - that if the manual explained that this would happen, unless you turned such a feature off, then not turning it off would be much the same as accepting it.

Even if that didn't apply, I think it would be hard to argue that an OTA firmware update did constitute an unauthorised modification of software.

Ah yes - sorry. With the Topfield you do have to physically do it. Apologies.
But with some other PVR's it's automatic with no user intervention.

I'm on 4.51 and running fine. The MyStuff team have been doing a sterling job by the looks of it and I've every faith in them.

This sounds like something your TV is showing rather than the Toppy... when I switch between from TV to AV1 for example, I get AV1/RGB on the screen for a short while. The TV is placing this on the screen, not the Toppy. Does it stay there or just display a little while?

Just a guess but that may be because you are now watching an external device and that may stand for External Connection No 4. set to RGB.

I have certainly never seen either of my Toppys dispaly such an On Sceen Display (OSD) or similar.

There will certainly be a button on your TV remote for cancelling this OSD. Hunt around the remote; if you really get deperate you may have to take extreme measures and get the TV manual out; but lets hope it does not come to that.

Sounds like it will be the informtion button on your TV remote. That's exactly what my Panny LCD displays when that button is pressed

apologies if this has been asked b4, can i upgrade my 5000pvr using this new firmware?
cheers

No; this firmware is only for the 5800 terrestrial model, in the UK.

Although it's possible to patch a firmware so that it will load onto another model, it's probably of limited use. If your 5000 is a satellite model, it'll be no use at all.

If it's a terrestrial model, it should be feasible, and may effectively turn it into a 5800, with support for MHEG and the UK EPG system, but you do that entirely at your own risk.

Nigel.

I believe that the Toppy cannot record from any external source other than the RF aerial inputs.
