I love this girl group they are fab!

I love most of thier songs esp There's Your Trobule, Goodbye Earl, Wide Open Spaces and Ready To Run.

They've just released their 4th Studio album The Long Way Around and it's quite exciting because its their first piece of material to ever make it into the UK Top Ten!

Although its a well known fact that they are absolutely massive in America, multi Grammy winning ......! Why not over here? I love the group they are fab!

Would love to hear from other Dixie Chicks fans!

yeah they are a great band, really big in america sold millions, but was really shocked and suprised by the enormous backlash they got for saying that they were ashamed they came from the same state as george bush,
this just proved how dumb and small minded the american people were and are, as they are still getting a hostile welcome back to the music scene.
this goes to prove there is no such thing as freedom of speech,

I think you'll find that they have done more than 4 studio albums. Although without singer Natalie Maines, she replaced Laura Lynch in about 1995. It was then when they started on the road to the 'big time', and the recent appearance on Later with Jools Holland the other week.

I think their anti-war stance has boosted their popularity and profile here, but I personally think they are still too middle-of-the-road to progress further than being barbecue music for the British public. Radio 2 has been pushing them on the side for quite a long time. Personally I thought their performance on Later did them no favours, I thought they were very bland and I counted around seven rhythm guitarists hitting exactly the same chords, yet their sound and energy were dwarfed by 3-piece The Frattellis and Gogol Bordello.

I come from Northern Ireland and just north from my town there is a small coastal village called Carnlough. Anyways, a few years ago Marty (Siedel) Maguire from the Dixie Chicks married one of the guys down there, or renewed their vows I think, but there was so much buzz about it and about hem comingto Northern Ireland, it was on the news and in the papers and it really boosted the Dixie Chicks profile here!

I remember hearing Travelling Soldier on the Bob Harris show when I was driving round late one saturday night.

First time I'd ever heard of the band and I've been hooked ever since. It's up there as one of my favourite ever songs now

I like the dixies a lot and the first 5 songs of new album are excellent in my opinion especially track 1 the title song and track 3 "not ready to make" but i think there's a few so so songs on remainder of album from tracks 6 to 14.

Anyone heard their new song Taking The Long Way Around? It is absolutely brilliant, I would really like to see them have a big hit over here in the UK, the album seems to have done really well!

I love 'Silent House' which they co-wrote with Neil Finn.

The album has certainly acheived platinum status. I like this band very much, got into them a few summers ago when Mum bought 'Wide Open Spaces'. I haven't heard any of their stuff with Laura Lynch, but I have all of their albums where Natalie Maines is on lead vocals, excluding 'Fly'.

Fave songs are 'Lubbock Or Leave It', 'White Trash Wedding', 'Everybody Knows', 'Travellin' Soldier', 'Give It Up Or Let Me Go' and way too many more to count.

Laura was one of the original members before Natalie.

Another ex-member is Robin Lynn Macy, who was also a lead singer.

They formed in 1989 with Martie, Emily, Laura and Robyn Lynn and recorded two albums 'Thank Heavens For Dale Evans' in 1990 and 'Little Ol' Cowgirl' in 1992. After which Robyn left and the trio recorded Shouldn't a Told You That in 1993. Natalie replaced Laura in 1995

The Dixie Chicks are a great group. I've not heard their pre-Natalie material, but I love their music with her. I thought "Wide Open Spaces" was a bit patchy, but contained some great songs. I think "Fly" and "Home" are sublime.

I've not given much attention to "Taking The Long Way" yet, but I enjoy the first seven tracks on it as well as "I Hope". "Lubbock Or Leave It" is a great tune, as is "Not Ready To Make Nice".

Actually, if I remember correctly (and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong), they kind of made themself look stupid, as Bush doesn't actually orginate from their state.

Maines also continued to make herself look bad by the way she continually made and then withdrew apologies.

However, they certainly don't deserve death threats.

^ I think when their apologies for their comments fell on deaf ears then they retracted the apologies. And quite frankly, I don't blame them. I mean being called "Saddam's angels" and receiving deaths threats for having an opinion is ridiculous, and I don't blame them for abandoning the country establishment.

As much as I love the Chicks, I think that once the dust settles completely over their comments and they stop talking about it (they have every right to talk about it, to my mind), I think they'll be embraced fully by America again. It may take a while, but I think there's a good chance that will happen.

Have they ditched country?

^ They haven't entirely ditched their country sound (their current album is more Adult Contemporary Rock than anything) but I think they've ditched the country establishment, as in, the people, their fans etc. who thought they had to conform to a certain idea of what a country musician should be like (i.e. a patriotic conservative).

Ah, that could well be why. It does seem very odd, given that there are plenty of dreadful things said about Bush by plenty of different people, yet none of them get attacked - supported, possibly.

I used to be fine with them, but ever since my mum got their new album its all shell play and i am sick to death of them!!! She some how thinks it makes her more punk rock listening to it, just because it has a song directed at George Bush on it!!

"Fly" and "Home" are my favourites. If you like "Wide Open Spaces", then get "Fly". They're different albums, but it's still very much in the vein of what the Dixie Chicks are all about. It's also got some brilliant songs on it such as "Sin Wagon" and "Goodbye Earl".

"Home" is more bluegrass country, and a bit more down-tempo than their other albums. It's still very good, though. I really enjoy it.
