Hi im getting messages delivered from people on o2 about half an hour or even longer after they are sent. Is it likely to be an orange or o2 problem?

It's an o2 problem because this happens to me too on T-Mobile, and when I was on Vodafone (until last week) I also had the same problem.

Fair enough then, its so annoying tho although i must admit that this is one of the reasons why i left o2 because text messages would get lost and sometimes not send at all

My Orange PAYG is like that at the moment. Annoying as hell.

At first i thought it was an orange specific problem but seeing as lee18xx has had the same problems then it cant be

Not only do they arrive late on other networks, they often arrive late on O2 to O2, and sometimes they don't arrive at all.

Just the other day I sent a text to a friend at around 10pm, he didn't get it until 3pm the following afternoon, and that was O2 Pay Monthly to O2 Pay Monthly. I often send texts to people and they never arrive, or they text back saying 'why did you text me at 4am'.

It's ridiculous.

My phones work fine. I have 2 o2 mobiles and 1 t-mobile and have no problems what-so-ever. Either sending them between each other, or sending to my friends and work colleges on multiple networks.

I hear people complain all the time about late landing SMS, and that is from people who are various networks.

For the last 2 months i have been sending in excess of 1000SMS and upto 50 MMS, and everyone has recieved their sms within 5 mins. Only problems i have is with MMS not coming through correctly from T-mobile.

If you want to check if its o2 problem send an sms to yourself. If the SMS comes through correctly than the path is clear. If its just to a specific network then the path might not be clear somewhere along the route. The fault could be with either network, so assuming its the one network is not always the reason why.

Well if people on tmobile and vodafone and orange have had problems then for defo its an o2 problem which to be honest i can believe. The text messaging system is shoddy.

Ive tried sending them to myself and i get them instantly on my orange phone.

I send around 1000 messages a month also and know that i dont trust o2 network at all, hence the reason that i left

I have no problems sending from my O2 phone to my t-mobile, orange and vodafone SIMs and I send many SMS's per day as part of my job.

And what makes you think people on other networks are not complaining about the same thing. As I have already said I hear people day in day out moan about SMS taking its time to come through and these people are on various networks.

I have already told you a way to confirm if the fault lies with o2. Get the person who you are having problems with to try sending one to their own number and see what happens.

Just done a test.

It took 4 seconds to send an SMS to my other o2 phone.

It took 6 seconds to send to an Orange phone from o2

It took 7 seconds to send to a T-Mobile phone from o2

Don't have any vodafone phones in the house so cannot try them.

O2 can't run a tap never mind a network - they send out faulty SIMs and then send e-mails asking you to return them, they recall their own brand of phone - O2 X1, and some prefixes such as 07843 don't receive texts whilst in a GPRS connection. To get your texts you have to disconnect GPRS, turn the phone off and back on, and then the texts come through. On all other prefixes such as 07999, 07927 etc the GPRS/text message issue does not exist.

Faulty sim cards - well all networks have a proportion of sims DOA (dead on arrival) just like all phone manufacturers have DOA phones. The sims are not made by o2.

Emails are probably sent once they realise a batch is faulty. This is being proactive rather than reactive! I.E good customer services.

X1 phone. Well that is not made by o2 so I am not sure how they can do anything about this. Espically as the recall was more than 1 year after production ceased!

If the prefix is such a big problem o2 will change your number FOC. Never heard this problem before though.

I did ask them to change it and they said there'll be a £10 charge for it so I told them where to stick it!

I guess you are right about the SIMs and phones not being made by O2, but it's unfortunate that these problems happen with the network. I've never had problems on other networks.

I'm with O2 Pay Monthly - I've had no problems with this, so at least that's something.

Which service provider are you with.

Also have o2 confirmed the prefix is faulty.

The amount of people who have issues with faulty sims (on arrival) is minute, so you would have to have been pretty unlucky to ever have had this happen before.

It was O2 Online, used with a Nokia 7610. I tried the SIM in my Sony Ericsson K750i and that was the same. I also tried another 07843 number in both phones and that was the same. But O2 told me they had no other reports of this, and that a charge of £10 would either be taken from my call-time balance or I could buy a new SIM from them for £10. Anyway, I chucked both my 07843 numbers and I now have a PAYG 07999 SIM and that seems fine, apart from the texts getting lost every now and again but a number of people seem to be reporting that so I don't think that's a faulty SIM but just a delay in the network.

You seem hell bent on defending O2, Why do you love them so much?

I am not here to defend o2 blindly. I will only defend them (o2) if the points being made are unfair, incorrect, or not fully informed.

Any issues which i think are just I can then raise to try and have the service improved for everyone.

not sure if this is connected to their shoddy messaging system... but how comes on o2 when you receive a voicemail they send you a text message to dial 901 to retreive it?

how comes the voicemail icon isn't supported on o2 like it is on the other networks?

Interesting that O2 are currently the most popular network according to this recent poll

This is quite a recent poll that replaced the original poll asking the same question. No prizes for who was most popular in that poll either.
