Hi,
I had my trusty Nokia 6100 Stolen and I use an O2 Contract with no line rental ever for life (old BT cellnet).
The only way to replace my phone as I was not insured was to buy a Pay As You Go phone so I chose a Nokia 6230i, it worked out at £120 to buy the handset on pay as you go and £10 to put a new contract SIM in it with my old number. If I bought the same phone SIM free unlocked or direct from O2 to upgrade my existing contract phone it would have been £210.
Anyway I had to have my new 6230i unlocked as I use a Virgin Pay montly SIM for daytime calls when away from home and a Tele2Comviq Sim whilst working in Sweden...
What annoys me now is the O2 branding and features in the phone software I constantly get "non INbox" Text messages on screen bleeping away telling me that "the O2 Service I have selected is unavailable on this network" Even the O2 screen saying "Goodbye thanks for using O2" on shutdown annoys me somewhat.
What I want to know is:
How can I cleanse the phone of the O2 branding, and features? Does anyone out there know how to do this and what would be required?
Anyone out there know anything about this?
All help appreciated
TY

I believe the phone would have to be flashed with different firmware.. Your local phone shop should be able to do it for a fee.

If you had bought the 6230i from the Carphone Warehouse it would be unlocked already with no branding.

To take all the O2 stuff off, you'll need to take it to a mobile phone shop that can do this. You CANNOT take it to a network shop, i.e O2, Vodafone etc and places like The Link, Carphone Warehouse - they won't do it.

The places you're most likely to get it done are phone stalls on markets and independant phone shops.

What you need is called 'Debranding' - you do NOT need a firmware update.

Thanks do you know if it will remove the constant requests by the phone for the O2 network even if another sim is inserted?

Yes, all O2 features and functions will be removed. Once this has been done by the shop, it's worth resetting your factory settings just to be sure you have a fresh clean phone.
