How Has The Music You Listen To Changed Over The Years?
As a child in the 80's I was into pop music, as a teen I was into rave music, that then progressed onto trance and hard house, then eventually house. Now I'm into I don't even know what genre it is but bands like The Editors, Hard-Fi etc...

Lots. I used to listen to RnB in the 90s, and after around 2000 I started progressing onto more indie stuff (proper indie stuff, not just bands with guitars - something which is less 'chart')

If I start in the 80's my favourite acts were Dire Straits and Pet Shop Boys. During the 90's it was mainly dance music and britpop (when it was cool), but in the last 2 years i've got more into the new wave of indie bands and I would say I go to see more gigs now than I did 10 years ago.
Theres still the odd dance track that makes me sit up and take notice but not as many as in the mid 90's. |

When i was younger I used to listen to pop music such as the Spice Girls, S club 7, Blue, etc.
Then when I was about 12 I got into Evanescence and bands like that, and then I've been into rock ever since, but I listen to a wide variety now. Over the past couple of weeks I've liked Nelly Furtado, Rihanna, Pussycat dolls, but I'm still mainly into rock bands. |

Hmm it has mainly stayed the same y'know. In the early 90s I was 'grunge' mad, whoch was bands like Norvana, Pearl jam, Dinosaur jr and Soundgarden..then I progressed to Oasis and British guitar bands...these days massive fan of bands such as The Libertines, DPT, Cooper temple clause, Editors...still really really like Nirvana mind.

when I was younger, (10ish) I liked pop, sclub7 b*witched and the like, then starting secondary school i went through a faze of Evanessence, Good charlotte, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback that kind of thing ( i shudder thinking about this time) then moved on to basic rock/softrock like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay. from about 13 I started to discover stuff that was yet to hit the charts and generally 'indie' music. I still like this kind of music but am now branching out into more genres like electro/synthy/80ish stuff and recognising just good music for instance new Nelly Furtado and Gnarles Barkley that wouldnt normally be my thing.

My music taste was mostly rock up till now, but over the last 6 months or so I have been listening to more of a varied taste. Mostly rock, some indie and one or two dance/club songs too. Still mostly into rock mind. =)

I generally go through fazes. When I was about 7 I went through a Shania Twain faze, which lasted til I was about 8 or 9. Then a Dido faze when I was 9, that lasted til I was 11 (and in between that I was into bubblegum pop and r'n'b) and since the age of 12 I've been in a Keane faze (which I actually think now is more than a faze) and I'm into alternative/indie and soft rock bands.

My taste hasn't really changed either, I just listen to a wider variety of music now.
At first I only listened to pop music, very mainstream, then mainstream rock too. Eventually I started listening to more rock which got me into punk, emo, indie, and all sorts of spin off genres. Now I listen to almost everything. Pop, rock, dance, jazz, classical, emo, punk, indie, alternative, metal, etc etc... |

My first love was kind of fairly pop-ey rock (note not Pop Rock!). The Great Escape by Blur was my first album love, in 1995. I got into Manic Street Peachers after that, with Everything Must Go, and This Is My Truth...
I've always liked that kind of thing. I've always had a very broad taste in music. Despite that, I do like a nice bit of electronica. I love Orbital, Underworld and I'm really liking Autechre's album Amber. I was brought up on lots of folk music from both my parents, and I like seeing lots of different types of folk music live, and I do like world music (I'm going to WOMAD festival this year, and I went last year). For the past two years or so I've loved Pink Floyd, and I'm getting into The Who a lot now (having seen them twice in Leeds in the past fortnight!). Recently I've started listening to a lot of post-rock. iLiKETRAiNS are a favourite at the moment. jack |

I like to say I've always been a little different/eclectic with my music taste... when I was about 8 or 9 years old, I would listen to my parents music (which ranged from OMD to Genesis) and crap dance music, since I didn't have my own taste then really..
from about 11/12 years old I started to get into more indie type music - Mansun, MSP, Radiohead, Gene etc.. which got me interested in guitar (finally got one when I was 13).. at the same time I heard Depeche Mode and The Prodigy, who are still up there in my all time favourite bands... from there on I got into more grungey/alt music around 13/14 - Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Nirvana (no longer like them), Soundgarden around 14/15 I started listening to heavier music - Tool (started a life long obsession!!), and a few cringeworthy bad nu-metal bands... around 16/17 I was still into the same style, but branching out into some more eclectic music like Queen Adreena, Ani DiFranco and Tori Amos, discovering Alice In Chains and Kyuss since then (now 21) I've been pretty much the same... mostly rock/metal music, but still liking the Mode, Prodigy, Tori, Ani and basically anything GOOD.. I don't discriminate based on genre |
