Pioneer DVR-540HX-S and DVD-RAM cartridges

I saw this on page 8 in the downloaded manual for the Pioneer DVR-540HX-S, in referring to the use of DVD-RAM disk cartridges:

"...Take the disc out of the cartridge before use. Only
Panasonic and Maxell discs have been tested to work
reliably with this recorder. Discs from other makers may
become unusable when recorded or edited..."

Does anyone who has one of these know for certain that cartridge-type DVD-RAM disks really are not accepted by the mechanism, and that the disks have to be removed from the cartridge first?

I am asking because I have several cartridge-DVD-RAM's with material previously recorded on a Panasonic DMRE30 and would not wish to mess around with having to remove the disks from the cartridges. It's a shame if it is the case, because I am otherwise very impressed with what this machine can do.

Everything I havre read about multi format machines from brands that never originally supported RAM,like Pioneer, has said that you can only record to uncartridged RAM discs

Yes remove the disc from cartridge and when not use it then put it back into cartridge to keep it clean - it does work fine on 540HX as Ive tried this as I have 5 of 4.7GB Maxell DVD-RAM and 5 of 9.4GB double side - both disc does work...

some recorders which has included to use DVD-RAM cartidge and mostly recorders use the disc by remove the cartridge.

Hi

As others have said, it has to be removed to play, and this is true of all multi-format recorders except for the couple of manufacturers that promote DVD-RAM.

The problem is competition for DVD Recorders mean prices are very low and including a drive loader that supports DVD-RAM cartridges is pretty expensive compared to standard drives, so you seldom find them these days.

Phil
