I vote for the ipod nano. I have the 1gb version, and i think its a great music player. The screens quite bright, and you can have photos and album art, which are pretty easily done through iTunes. The sound qualitys great IMO, and i reckon the battery lifes pretty amazing, and apple will replace/fix it anytime in the 1st year, if anything goes wrong.

Yes, i'd go for the Nano too, it's nice, small, reliable and slimmer than the Samsung.

Yes, by law anything bought (new) in the UK has to come with a minimum of a 12 months manufacturers guarantee.

marks are much easier to see on the white iPods. I have a white iPod Shuffle and you can see every tiny bit of marking.

I think that the Samsung would be more scratch resistant, however, it's not as easy to use, and also, doesn't have the same support and class about it.

However, if you're looking at iPod's, then there's no difference in scratch resistance between the black and white models.

My black nano hasnt got a mark on it at all, and i was using the free case that you get with it for a while, and still stayed perfect, so dont get worried about marks on it that much digi-guy!

The Samsung is in no way whatsoever easier to use, believe me. I sell both, everyday at work.

Definately the Nano, especially if you intend to buy music from iTunes.

This has to be the worst post ever made. Go for one by someone else.

sumvision opus pro 2GB, can be had for £60-70. It does: music, voice recording, FM radio, photo playback, video playback, games and e-books. It is of course a cheapo asian-made player so the controls are a bit unnatural and take some getting used to but if you want maximum features for least money, it's alright. build quality is solid and it is positively tiny - it's nano sized.

I would go for the Nano. I have owned other mp3 players in the past from creative and Rio and would never touch anything other than an Apple for whats out their on the market at the moment.

Not true. You can use alternative software. If you dislike the iTunes software as much as I do, it's worth a few dollar: Anapod Manager (http://www.redchairsoftware.com)

Do you have any WMA DRM music downloaded already? If you do I don't think the Nano will accept it, unless you burn them to a CD then re-rip them.
The same can be said for I-tunes although Realmedia seems to have a wrkaround (others may exist)

Frankly I would recommend the 1Gb nano Creative players but again that is a personal choice.

itunes would swing it for me .. lots of content .. easy to use i've had a mini and a nano and there v nice. The only reason i can see to go for the samsung is battery life but my nano will still do 16 hrs or so much improved on my old mini.

I have a Ipod Mini and i have had no problems with that but my niece has an Ipod Nano 4GB and she is onto her 3rd replacement now. If anything goes wrong with that one then she will be getting her money back and trying another model.

I have read around online and from what i have read the Nano's do seem to be quite problematic for some people and even a customer relations officer from Apple tech support told me that quite a few customers do have problems with their Nano's.

The Apple Ipod is great when it works properly but i just do not know how reliable they are.

Apple has said that 0.2% of the iPod nanos they have shipped are faulty. That's well below the average failure rate of consumer electronics.

Any reports of product failures will be exaggerated. With 50 million + iPods sold, people will be vocal if something goes wrong but not say a lot if they have no problems at all.
