Need some help

Trying to watch Sky & record from Freeview but with no joy. I have my Sky connected to RXD710 via scart then scart to my TV (from recorder). I have tried messing with settings , changing Line on remote but with no joy.

If i am watching freeview and I hit the tv/dvd button on remote then i get a flicker but it reverts back to freeview.

Any ideas ?

further to above.....my mate has exactly the same machine connected up to sky & he has definetley only ONE scart coming out of his SKY receiver & only ONE scart going into his TV from his DVD recorder.

been round my mates & he deffo only has one scart coming out of his Sky receiver & this goes to his DVD recorder. The recorder is then scarted to the TV.....he also has a coac to a SONY DAV S800 DVD player which he uses as his surround sound system - the DVD Player is then connected to the TV via phono as to give the option of watching DVD's thru the player & not the recorder.

So there must be a way of recording freeview & watching SKY ??

Go to the settings->picture menu on the Sky box and make sure that SCART control is on. If not then the Sony may not recognise that the Sky box is sending any signal, and so won't switch to it. Just a guess, but...

As stated above, make sure the SKY box Scart Control is set to ON and for best quality pictures set it to output in RGB mode (also, if you havent done already, set the picture format to 16:9, assuming you have a wide screen TV). This is all done from Services, 4, 1 on the sky remote (information from memory so I hope it is correct). Also, make sure you connect the SKY box to SONY input 3. You should be able to toggle between FreeView on your 710 and SKY by using the TV/DVD button on the remote.

One more thought, are you using fully wired scart leads? It might just be that you have the cheaper stripped down cabels which do not do not support RGB and all the control signals. If you are using the cheaper ones I suggest these are replaced with better examples. Do not spend too much on the new ones, £12 - £15 is more than enough. There are people out there who think nothing of shelling out £80 on a scart lead. IMO, once your spend reaches £15 any extra only gives minor improvements. There, is a well known geeky electrical component chain (you know, the one that starts with M) who do some pretty good scart leads for the price I stated above.

My config with Telewest cable instead of sky works the way you want:

Set L2 and L3 to RGB

Telewest box - connected into L3 (IN) on '710
TV - connected to L2 (OUT) on the '710

I can watch cable or a HDD recording whilst recording freeview.

I can also record cable whilst watching freeview.
