I've been trying to get my sky+ box (pace v2) to work via my voip line - but with no success

I can see via my call log that it does make a connection, and then drops the call after 25 seconds. I know there are issues with using modems and faxes on voip, but i have sucessfully been using my faxmodem for faxes for many months now without any problems.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try with this??

BTW, I have now cancelled by BT line, so the only line available to me is voipcheap!

My guess would be that the Sky box is determined to run at a higher baud rate than you can get away with on a VOIP line. Tradtionally fax machines only run at 9600 but it's possible the Sky box is refusing to drop below 33000 or something like that.

Is it possible to force the sky box to run at a lower speed through the engineer menus at all? (I'm a TW customer so no absolutely nothing about Sky ).

in reality, no I don't need it connected to the phone line all the time.

Today i'm trying to register for the sky by mobile recording feature thru my mobile, hence the need for the phone line!

I've got the same problem. From what I've read it does seem to be a problem with connection speed due to digital compression. There is a technical solution though, the ITU ratified a protocol about three years ago (ITU V.150.1) that allows analogue modem traffic to travel over an IP network, unfortunately none of the VOIP providers or hardware companies have implemented it yet.

Interestingly, Sky are set to launch their own VOIP service sometime next year.
