scientists working on new flat-screen technology
Very large but very slim screens based on field emission technology are likely to be as cheap as CRTs.
read about it here! |

There are hundreds of companies and individual researchers working on display technology, alas 99% of them vanish without a trace when put up against the real world market and global corporations who run the world
![]() SED still looks like the next real world flat panel mass market technology and that will be well established before this technology ever sees the light of day. |

Actually some analysts doubt that SED will ever become more than a niche product, regardless of how good it is technically. To find the reason you just have to look at the ever growing number of LCD factories that are springing up all over the place.

Wouldn't surprise me given that the first SED products will be aimed at the larger panel sizes which even now LCD are encroaching on. Even with some technical improvments they would have to match the price of LCD which will be a much harder task than taking on plasma prices.
I've been using LCD for over 18months and it's been excellent so much so that I would consider the technology for a 50" 1920*1080 panel when prices and choice is more reasonable. |

I manage the software department for a leading UK digital outdoor advertiser and SED has been around as a concept for at least a couple of years. I feel that as far as large flat panel displays go, it'll be LCD, then Plasma leading the market for several years to come yet,
With regards to it being as cheap as CRT, I'll believe it when I see it. Sounds like someone is using that line to secure a grant to develop the idea. |

Never mind new tech, all someone has to do is improve LCD production to drastically reduce the amount of dud panels they have to toss.
When they come up with a perfect-pixel method we'll really see the prices plummet. |
