Music means different things to different people.
The reason I like bands like Starsailor and Coldplay, is they make me feel emotional. Listening to "Trouble" and "The Scientist" make me feel like crying (in a good way) because they hit the spot.
Music means nothing to me if there is no passion in it. Oasis make passionate music because they believe they are the best. Doves make passionate music because of who they are.
Gareth Gates has as much passion as a wet fart, that's why I can't stand his music. On the other hand Darius believes in his music/writing ability, so I have some respect for him.
