Whats the difference between a Plasma HD TV and an LCD HD TV?

I see the Plasma HD TV's are alot cheaper.....so I presume they are not as good as the LCD's ?

Could anyone give a recommendation on a 32" HD TV based on which you believe is better between an LCD and Plasma.

Thanks.

I like the panasonic range of HDTV's, LCD based, i looked at both LCD and Plasma pictures when i went shopping and i couldnt see what i was paying more for Plasma for - so i went with LCD.

Rule of thumb.
LCD small screen very good.
Plasma big screen very good
Mid size screen 32-37 have a good look first either are very good.
Personally would only have a plasma at +37". Deeper colours, more colours, better viewing angle, quicker pixel response time & truer blacks. But thats a personal opinion. Just dont rule either out until you can see a good demo of both at the same time!

The JVC LT32DX7 is a cracking set at about £1250 good picture and great sound.
The Panasonic TX32LXD60 is also very good at about £1150.
Could be tempted to wait for the TX32LXD600 due in September though as it has more features and much better sound. Price tba but expect £1450-£1550 at an educated guess.
Happy hunting!

The only thing you were paying for was the size of screen.
LCD stops at 32" from Panasonic while Plasma starts at 37".
For the £400 difference in price you get more connections on the set, a much bigger screen and a lovely floor stand if you want it!!

I am a real Panasonic fan - hardly ever consider anything else (and will NEVER buy anything Sony ever again BTW). Anyhow I spent 6 months from December looking at large/big flatscreen tellys to replace my 25" CRT. Initially I thought it would be a no brainer and I'd get a 32" Panasonic HD LCD but then I saw one (the LXD60) in the Panasonic shop in Milton Keynes and I was heartbroken. To my eyes the display was shocking! It showed all the examples of a bad LCD - edge sparkle and motion blur to name but the two most obvious (generally it does only get 3/5 in reviews too). But in the same visit I saw the TH37PX60 plasma and the picture sent a tingle up my spine but, again in my eyes, the styling and sound let it down but even so I set about pursuading the good lady that we needed to go bigger in order to get the plasma. By the time I'd won the arguement I'd had to conceed the home cinema kit but the TH37PX600 was on the way. Better 3D sound and cool styling - it arrived 2 weeks ago and I'm as happy as a bunny in a cabbage patch and the few reviews there have been so far give it 5/5.

What I'm saying is under 37" you have little choice but to go lcd and IMO there are way better lcds out there than Panasonic's (I too thought the JVC was nice). As far as size for size plasma vs. lcd goes 37"-42" lcd there isn't a great deal in it now - perhaps plasma still has it but lcd is catching up fast (especially the Sony Bravias) and gives up to 1080 resolution but it really is a matter of individual taste. Above 42" across the board, reviews still put plasma over lcd.

BTW, I paid £1495 (inc. VAT) for my TH37PX600BCAB from Gultronics - but now my advice would be to put some effort in and get John Lewis to pricematch and get their free 5 year warrantee.

HTH!

Lg are not bad - well, mine isn't anyway. If you are a real nit-picker or want to sit too close to the TV then by all means spend a fortune on "the best" set you can find.
If you are after a decent TV and want value for money then you can do far worse than LG.

I Get your point.........BUT to me if you are buying into the next generation of television......'HD'.. Surley you HAVE to be picky.... for HD, is it not the 'only point' to get the best picture possible ??

Nothing wrong with LG.

I have a Pioneer, my mate has a LG. Viewing HD I personally can't see a difference between the two. Detail, colour are identical. If I were to say anything was different I would say the LG had slightly better blacks, both sets have been setup with the same disc, but different dvd players. Both sets have a good selection of connections. For looks I prefer my Pioneer, but the LG does look very nice. At the moment I am connected via component due to the HDMI problem, my mate is connected via HDMI, the LG has had no problems via this connection.

Now SD is a different matter. The LG seems to be better with Sky SD via the HD box. It seems to handle the weaker channels better.

If I were in the market for a new display I would seriously consider the LG. Top branded names are normally a safe bet, but sometimes the lesser known competition can come up with the goods. In this instance, I cant see the point in paying over the odds just for a name.

Once you get a HD set the picture improvement over SD is phenomenal. The difference you will see between different HD sets will not be (relatively). Apart from that, the "best picture possible" will always be different to different people, up to a point.

I believe that you have to find the best deal for you. That's why, having seen many different sets, I plumped for the LG. I was not prepared to pay hundreds of pounds more for a "better" brand that didn't deliver any significant improvement over the LG. In fact, the LG gave a better picture than most, in my opinion.

I now have what I consider to be a very good HD-Ready set that provides excellent vision and sound and looks good in the corner of my living room. Added to that, I have the satisfaction of knowing that I haven't been "sucked-in" to paying over-the-odds for a so-called name.
