Does anyone remember this show shown in 1997 ?

The first series was on Sky One, but Channel 4 picked it up for a second series ?
It was very much like Night and Day, but it didn't have all the Dream sequences !

I remember this, even though I only ever saw it once on Channel 4. But it was memorable.

I think we need these weird soaps and there was also an ITV one in 1994 called 'Revelations' which was written by Rusell T Davis. Needless to say it didn't last!

I am going to miss Night and Day so much, it is so entertaining. I just hope there'll be another one like it but its totally screwed now, even if they brought it back to its tea time slots it would be no use - its just going to fade away.
I tape it because it so good and will be worth watching once the show ends.

Hopefully sky will repeat Springhill possibly in the night time like they do with Brookside.

Sky often repeat the first series of Springhill (early mornings) look out for it (I have all 26 epoisodes on tape) !

But I am waiting for Channel 4 or E4 to repeat the second series ! (Sky have never, and don't have the rights to a second series) !

REVELATIONS !!!
Yeah, man- that was like NAD and SH too ! lol I loved it. That was wierd too, the first series was on ITV, but strangly enough not in the Yorkshire region !
But in 1995 they repeated it on Sky One before making and showing a second series- did you manage to catch the second series ?
It was way better than the first !

Do you know when was the last time Springhill was on sky as I'd love to see it, I thought there might have been more than 26 episodes - what was it about? Or in genereal if you can describe it. I remember the theme tune...
I've had digital for over a year but never seen it listed on sky guides, although I may have missed it.

As for Revelations, well I only know about that but never seen it before. I read up on it though and it sounds great.
I think it was about religious families? possibly, all though I may be wrong.

I really hope sky do show these as i'd love to see them.
E4 is good but after BB in the summer its been saturated with American imports and Graham Norton, they started with all these excellent comidies but would be as well repeating Springhill.
And I dont think ITV will repeat Revelations either....

Springhill- it was great !
It was about a family in Liverpool- very ordinary ???? until you got to know !

The family was the mother and father (cant remember names, tho she was called Liz (and was Aviline in Bread) !
They had 5 kids, Nick the eldest about 18-19, then two daughters and two young sons !

Anyway, in the end of the first series it turned out that the father was a bigamist, and the first 2 kids and the second to last kid was his to the first wife ? But the kids did not know. They changed the age of one of the kids to fit in, like two of these kids were born at the same time (different mums but same dad)- so to fit it all into one family (if you see what I mean) they changed the age of one of the kids !
This other woman came back and moved into a house across the road ! One by one, she took her family back and the whole family (appart from the second wife (the mum Liz) moved across the road !

The second series was basically the same but in reverse ! -the family moved back across the road !

It has wierd and strange things about it. Just like NAD !

If you like Night and Day you will love Springhill !

Revelations was not quite as good, it was about a family, the father was a bishop- but it was very very adult. He was having an affair with his scretary- and his wife knew, she kept it a secret for him !
His mistress got pregnant- so his wife killed her (just to prevent the truth from getting out) ! Her daughter-in-law found out about this, and so the bishop and his wife killed her !
madness !

they first repeated Springhill in November 2000, because I remember just moving into my new house then and thats when it was on !
It hasd been repeated twice since then, I think the first time was in Jan / Feb this year !
Its always on at about 3am weekdays !

If you was really really interested, I would be willing to copy for you, the first series which I have on tape (tho I cant promise it will be a brilliant recording, tho more than watchable )
Two tapes in LP, 4 tapes in SP.

Was Springhill the soap set in Liverpool with the son who was very catholic like Anthony in Brookside?

Yeah, it was. I always suspected that the Murrays had a touch of Springhill-influence about them, especially as Adele was in the second series of Springhill as well.
My favourite character was Eva Morrigan, but I also have a soft spot for Marion, her nemesis in series 2.
A few years back, I emailed Paul Cornell, who wrote/storylined the second series, and he revealed that the third series would have featured Eva getting her clutches on baby Gabriel and raising him in her (evil) image! There would also have been a new 'good' figure to battle Eva.
I loved the way Eva, who was evil, always wore a black coat but Marion, who was supposed to be good, always had a white one.
It was also notable for having a bit of a teenage gay love story, years before Queer as Folk made things like that fashionable.
Fantastic stuff!

Cool !
I so want to see the second series again !

Do you still have the e-mail address of that guy ? -I would love to e-mail him and ask him a few questions !

I do remember feeling sorry for Eva in the second series- and it was kinda like the tables had turned and she was the good character and that Marion, really was a nasty piece of work, in the end I thought !
lol

Sorry, I don't even have the email any more - it was on a long-dead computer! (Sounds like a Springhill plot)
Eva might have seemed nicer, but was still a witch - don't you remember the very last scene, where she revealed that she had murdered Liz?

That was not in the very final scene- I think that was in the second to last episode- because dont you remember in the final episode- it went even more bazaar and about 30 years into the future, and Sue turned out to be a Lesbian- John-Paul was on drugs and Anthony and his boyfriend got married, and Nick became a priest ?!
The final scene was when John-Paul was searching the hills for his dead mother Liz !

Oh yeah, I remember now!
Another thing I remember now is that Paul Cornell told me that was not supposed to be the last episode! They added it on at the end without consulting the people who had plotted the whole series, which is why it's a bit out-there. The real ending would presumably have been a cliffhanger to the next series.

Maybe they added that ending on, when they realised there was not going to be another series !
I guess after that, it kinda ****s up any chances of another series !

I e-mailed Channel 4 and they said that they still hold the rights and could still possibly repeat the second series on wither Channel 4 or E4 !

Seems already the NandD post is drawing to a conclusion.
Would it be possible for you to copy me the second series ? I would pay of course ! Not too bothered about it being poor quality- I would just love to see the concluding episodes again !

I could copy you series 2 of Springhill. It would take a long time as I work full time and would have to borrow a second VCR from someone. And then maybe you could help me try aand figure out the ending?

well, if you could copy them that would be great, and of course would pay.
But its not that important, if its going to be a lot of hassle, then it seriously doesn't matter.

In many ways, Springhill was better than NAD, only it had less characters !

I find it hard to believe that any show could top NAD! But Springhill sounds very interesting, does anybody know of any good Springhill websites? I've tried running 'Springhill' through Google, but nnothing comes up.

I remember there was lots of stuff about it having a paranormal element and mentions of it being a cross between a soap and The X-Files (which was a big Sky One hit at teh time). I watched it on and off and never figured out what was paranormal about it, anyone explain? Was it Eva was she LITERALLY evil?

Hopefully sky will repeat Springhill possibly in the night time like they do with Brookside.
Does Sky still repeat Brookside at night? I know they did for a while but I thought they'd stopped now.

I remember Springhill aswell, it wasn't half bad actually. It was a bit strange but that was half the attraction, it was different to the heavyweight soaps like Enders, Corrie and Brookie at the time.

Springhill!! That was genius. From memory, it started out reasonably normally about a Liverpool family. Then we discovered the dad of the family was a bigamist, and when the second wife died he moved the other kids in with his first wife, even going so far as to change the year of birth for one child because it was the same as one of his children with his first wife (if you see what I mean) and it would not have been plausible for them to be brother and sister...

Then the mother went missing and it went MAD. Good versus evil etc.

I remember the incredibly camp religious boy telling his brother how homosexuality was a sin! Heh, heh!!

Revelations!! This was only actually shown in three ITV regions- Granada showed both series, because I watched them!! Loved it. The bishop killed his mistress, but then it all went a bit MAD.

Judy Loe (Kate Beckinsale's mum!) played the matriarch of the family and the second series was all about her. She had an affair with Steve, the brother of her daughter-in-law Rachel, who she had murdered by injecting with a needle full of air bubbles she had taken from her bisexual drug addict son Gabriel (Rachel's husband) after Rachel found out that the bishop had killed his mistress and the wife had helped him cover it up.

Rachel's body ended up in the grounds of the big house where they lived. The police found a body when they searched the grounds, but it was the body of a child the family's PA / maid person had had with the bishop some years ago, the child having died shortly after birth. Well, the PA / maid was a bit distracted at the time though because the local female vicar had just declared undying lesbian love for her.

It was great!!

series 1 of revelations was repeated on sky one the year after it finished on (some) itv regions. sky one then went onto commission a second series.
