maybe a tad off topic, but for all you widescreen tv owners (oh and Sky digital too) you can see a nice proper widescreen testcard ideal for checking and setting up your nice widescreen tv set.
goto 'services', then 'System setup' then 'add channels' tghen type in 11788 and V (it might already be set as the default.... then you get 3 channels found (ITV, EPG music and TestService... store the testservice and hey presto. It might be old news, but the testcard hasnt been on when I've checked before. |

yes, sorry, of course I meant 11.788, (I suppose I should have also mentioned it was GHz in case of confusion too) however I'm sure most people could probably work that out. Sorry for any confusion. I really must remember to dot the i's and cross the t's.

Thanks for the tip Orbitalzone - that will come in useful, for geometry adjustments. I'm not too impressed with the video quality though. The frequency gratings show it is about -6dB (50%) at 4MHz - not good. Is this typical of Sky transmission I wonder? If so we might as well use composite out of our digiboxes - no point using RGB. I get the impression though that most channels are better than this, but that could just be wishful thinking.

Sadly I am viewing SkyDigital on a 15 inch tv! (recent floods took away my proper tv!) I don't know if the test card is typical of Sky picture quality, and yes it seems that Composite PAL looks virtually the same as RGG except Onscreen graphics are much clearer on RGB. It seems to vary from TV set as to how well RGB signals are displayed. Anyhow, it's nice to have a 16/9 testcard to check out the geometry settings on a widescreen TV.

But there is no way of configuring my widescreen TV so I won't be able to change it if the geometry was wrong!

Sorry, again I confuse! ... : ) yes you are correct that you generally cannot re-configure your TV set.. unless you know how to enter the service mode that most modern TVs have. I really mentioned this test card so you can see how good (or bad) your widescreen TV looks on a static test card. These days test cards are rare, and widescreen ones very rare. On the net you can often find sites devoted to TVs etc, and some sites tell you how to get into setup / service modes. BUT if you do tinker.. you will invalidate your guarantee... and you MIGHT damage the TV or stop some funtions working.. you've been warned... : )
