Having updated the firmware and all my TAPs, my Toppy crashes and restarts after about 60 seconds.

I have narrowed it down to the Description Extender.

I have the Bastille Day Firmware -this is not the problem as I tried reverting to the previous firmware.

Then by removing all my TAPs individually:
JAG's 3.0 pre-Beta 5
TF5000 Display v1.29
Improbox v2.1 RC8a
Description Extender 1.4

I have found that without the last TAP all is ok.

Any idea why anyone? Is this a faulty TAP?

Any advice much appreciated

There's a fair bit of discussion on the Toppy site; looks like some issues with Description Extender and how it interacts with Jag's EPG, but I'm not quite sure of the details yet.

You'll likely get a faster response over there.

I (and some others) have had the same problem with the new version of Mystuff (5.1). In the end I have reinstalled 5.0 which seems to work with the new firmware. I shall wait a few days until the bugs are sorted out.

Just to add that I am using latest MySuff (4.51) and new firmware (on both my Toppys) and all is fine. You are having some conflict with other TAPs perhaps?

If it any help I am running

MYStuff 4.51;
DeadBeefs TF5000 Display v1.28;
Remote ExtenderMHEG1.1;
mcgCYRResume V1
eit2mei b7 (not absolutely sure about that b7)

As well as Mystuff , I am running eit2mei , Description Extender and the TAP for auto power-off. They are all the latest versions. I am seriously thinking of changing to Jags instead. What are your thoughts on that ?

I would suggest that you try it without Description Extender seems to be some problems even with latest version.
see last few pages of this thread

There also seem to be problems with Jags with new firmware (lots more than with MYStuff from what I can make out) so definitely don't go there if you want my advice. I always found it very confusing in any event.

I am not fully convinced that the fault lies with Description Extender. If I revert back to Mystuff 4.5 everything's OK. I think for the moment I am going to stick with 4.5. Especially as my computer and Toppy are in different rooms. I got a bit fed up today of continually unplugging the Toppy , taking it to the computer, trying various things and still ending up with problems.

Well you asked me what changes you thought would help. If you are not prepared to make them that is up to you. Not sure why you asked for my opinion though?

Sorry if I came over like that, I didn't mean it that way. It's just that I am hot and tired! Thanks for your help. But, after seeing that other people are also experiencing problems with 4.51, I think it is the case of the devil you know etc. I have a feeling that because of all the problems with the latest version of Mystuff there might be a new version soon.

There have been alot of problems noted on toppy.org with mystuff 4.51. This has mostly been traced to the wrong pinlist being published (wont affect most people as its only used if you lock files etc) and corrupt MEI files that 4.5 did not pick up. If you use the pin file make sure you have the new version. If you have startup crashes then try deleting the freeview.mei and mystuff.mei files in the program files folder aftr starting up the toppy with 0 key held.

I currently run MyStuff 4.51, Description Extender, eit2mei, remote extender, TAP commander and Automove. I had to spend a few hours getting the new versions on Thursday and putting them onto my toppy so that I new they were working. The new version of eit2mei did a new scan on the old firmware before I updated and have had no problems so far.
