Homechoice on PC

Hey everyone,

I've got a Compaq Evo D510 Desktop
running XP Pro on SP2
Pentium 4 2.40 GHz
2.39 GHz, 248 RAM

and a Compaq Evo N600c Laptop
Running XP Pro on SP1
Pentium 3 Mobile 1066 MHz
722 MHz 256 RAM

No TV tuner yet as I think it might be solution dependent (possibly Hauppage PVR 150 or Dazzle DVC 90?)

So, I want to be able to continue to watch HC on a TV/Projector and also be able to watch and schedule recording HC on my PC

Does any one know how this can be acheived on the Desktop primarily with the Laptop as a substitute?

Cheers

depends which way you want to do it? easiest is use the second scart socket on the stb plug it into an rf modulator and from the modulator in to the aerial socket of whatever tv device you are going to use

Or - even easier than Johnny's solution - get a TV card with a composite input and skip the modulator. Take the stereo out of the second scart with the right lead (Currys.digital or Maplins should sell them).

card inputs are generally svs and the audio will need to be supplied seperately

My laptop card comes with an SVHS to composite, audio-L/R adapter.

not everyone is that fortunate and a scart to svs will not have the facility for sound.

You still won't be able to schedule recordings as the HC box doesn't have the programmability that every other service has, once the box goes into standby the reminders will not revive it.

as far as i know 'i may be wrong' but scart to svs will not carry sound. i of course stand to be corrected by those who may know better and be able to demonstrate it

No, it would seem you are correct, the additional pins are not for audio.

Most TV cards get around this by using the PC's audio input.

Many cheaper TV Cards used to route the audio into the PC's input anyway as it used to be that PC TV cards were too resource intensive so blanked the picture into the video buffer to avoid using the PCs processor.

So even if you get S-Video output from the HC box you still have a way of gettign the audio on most PCs.

with an svs input one will not get audio on the pc, routing or otherwise, an svs plug does not carry sound and an external source of sound will need to be found ie flying phono etc

Johnny - can you point out the exact words where anyone said that you'd get audio on the same lead as S-Video - not svs by the way, that's just wrong and dumb, typing it once can be excused as lazyiness but twice is just ignorance.
