Jeff Buckley
Just thought I'd start a thread in the hopes that there are Jeff Buckley fans who want to talk about him and his music.
Hope I'm not alone in recognising how big a talent he was and how much he's missed. Also want to see what peoples opinions are on the albums "Grace" and "Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk" and what your fave Buckley songs are. xx |

What a wonderful thread!
Jeff Buckley was a legend. A true great, it's so sad that his life was cut so short. Grace is one of the finest albums ever, my favourites are...actually every single track. It's beautiful. |

Lover....., Last Goodbye and The Sky is a Landfill are my personal favourites.
I accidentally discovered him about four years ago. Brilliant talant and a great loss to music. A couple of films are in the pipeline and i watched a documentary a few years ago and Brad Pitt is a huge fan too. |

It's worth trying to get hold of the live DVD - it's an interesting watch. he ain't perfect live, but the insight from the comments he makes and the way he reacts to the audience.. he was a remarkable bloke.
Dream Brother is a great read too - up until he was 9 or so his name wasn't Jeff Buckley, he was Scotty Moorhead. When he found out about his dad he changed his name, but he and his father didn't have much of a relationship after that. |

"Grace" is one of my favourite albums and a few of the songs have a special meaning for me. It was tragic to lose such a talent so young.

How could anyone not be a Jeff Buckley fan! With a voice like his, you find it hard to imagine anyone not liking him!

Tim Buckley was more in the folk-jazz vein, his voice was richer than Jeff's and he did succumb to the temptation to sing in a slightly over-the-top soul style. His album Greetings From LA contains the track Sweet Surrender which was picked by Johnny Rotten on his legendary Capital Radio show - it's not typical of Tim Buckley, but it's an astonishing display of vocal pyrotechnics.

Thanks! I think I'll get a Tim Buckley cd. Would you recommend "Greetings From LA"?
I'm in heaven now listening to So Real...the guitar riff is out of this world and he really pushes his vocals on this song. Unbelievable. xx |

Greetings From LA is quite soulful; you could try Dream Letter which is a live album; a lot of people rate Happy Sad very highly too.

Nine studio albums during his lifetime, the live albums were posthumous.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any Jeff Buckley tribute songs? I know that Rufus Wainwright wrote a song called Memphis Skyline about Jeff which is a really touching tribute.

I'd have to say 'Forget Her' is my favourite track of his.
The guy had such a way with music, a great understanding for music, and an honesty in songwriting that makes most of today's poseurs and pretenders look a bit silly to be honest! I often think of him when I listen to Muse, as Matt Bellamy has a very very similar voice. |

That's one of the reason's why i like Muse so much because i like the quality of the vocals. Matt's got such an impressive range llike Jeff. xx |

I hate the sight of his mother on the TV whenever there is any Jeff related activity - I get the feeling she is cashing in on him somewhat.

I've been a fan of Jeff for years, my avatar on other boards is a great pic of him.
Favourite songs? Everybody Here Wants You and Eternal Life (the Live a L'Olympia version is awesome). |

xx There are quite a few other tribute songs to Jeff. Off the top of my head: PJ Harvey - Memphis Pete Yorn - Bandstand in the Sky Aimee Mann - Just Like Anyone Heather Nova - Valley of Sound Cocteau Twins - Rilkean Heart (I think that's the title) Duncan Sheik - A Body Goes Down There are more. I'm sure Badly Drawn Boy wrote a song about Jeff too.... I wonder what this film about Jeff will be like? I mean, who could play him!? |

Wave Goodbye by Chris Cornelll is also a Jeff tribute. It's on Cornells Euphoria Morning album (which is pretty great).

Jeff is far and away the best out of the two and in my opinion it'll be difficult for anyone to better Jeff. What I mean is I like the style of voice Matt has because he's heavily influenced by Jeff and it shows. I wasn't being ironic though I'm a Muse fan...loud and proud! |
