Putting in new master socket.
Do I need to get BT to fit a new master socket ?
I'm in the middle of nowhere and a long way from the exchange, 11km. I've read that you can unplug the front of the phone socket and plug into a test socket, but I think my socket is too old. I've got 512K BB at the moment. thanks http://images6.theimagehosting.com/DSCF3628.JPG |

That is a cheap phone extension socket from Wilkos.
Your master socket may be somewhere else, or you may not actually have one. If someone has been playing about with the equipment in the past it could be anywhere, or it may have been removed. The unit you're looking for is the same size as a lightswitch and will have a BT socket in the bottom 1/3 of it. Last edited by Lurch : 17-07-2006 at 20:25. |

I found it, I took out the two screws found the test socket and plugged in the tel connection from the router, many thanks.
My router stats indicate the the SNR is a little higher but the other thingy Line Att has just stayed the same. What a pity.

Usually though, the master socket will have a BT logo of some sort on it whereas the extension sockets won't. |
