Not going on stanby when Rec finshed?

18-07-2006
Hi,

If I select a programme to record, the toppy will not go into stanby when recording is complete?

This happens when watching a live channel or other recorded material during the recording phase only.....

Even when I finish watching live channel or other recorded material before the the recording phase ends, The toppy tunner is left on all night and not going into stanby?

If I do not watch anything while its recording it will go into stanby when recording is finshed.

Any tips please?

It's working as designed. If you use the Toppy while it's recording it will stay on until you switch it off. If you are finished watching before the recording ends set a sleep timer (Use the Opt button).

You don't need to use a sleep timer to get it to switch off after you have finished watching it but it is still recording.

You can get it to switch off after the recording with just one button press.

All you need to do is press the red off button on the remote. A message will appear on screen warning you about the recording ongoing. Just ingnore the message and leave everything alone, don't respond to the message or press anymore buttons. The display on the Topfield itself will say OFF and when it's finshed the recording it will switch itself off as you require.

Well, as I've mentioned before, that last option does depend on the firmware the original poster is using; it's fine with recent ones, but with older ones used to cause a crash.

So, unless you know what firmware someone has on their box, the best way to tell them to get it to go to standby after a recording is by using the sleep timer.

Essentially, if you use ANY controls while the Toppy has woken up to record from standby it thinks "Aha! There's someone here" and assumes that you'll probably want to carry on watching TV when it's finished, rather than suddenly have the screen go blank on you.

I the latest firmware, the toppy is only a month old.

However, am I right in saying that while the toppy is recording I can use the sleep timer if I stop watching live programmes etc before a recording on a perticular channel ends and this will go into stanby when recording ends?

Otherwise the toppy will never turn off/go into stanby overnight after a recording, meaning unnessary use of electricity etc etc...

Alien - yes you are correct. This has always worked for me. But note what Nigel has said above.

The latest firmware came out last week. I haven't noticed any difference with 'sleep', but the EPG, especailly data collection is so much better.

Yes

Press Options (above the 3 button)
Scroll down to Sleep Time
Press right button to get 10 minutes
Press Options again or OK

The Toppy will now normally shut down after 10 minutes. However if you are recording it will shut down after the recording finishes.

That is the 'official' method.

Also you can just press power toggle
If you are recording it will not turn off but bring up box saying 'recording not finished do you want power off?'
DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING - do not answer yes or no - Nothing - go to bed. The Toppy will turn off when recording finished.

Hope that makes all clear.

Apologies to those who have already given same answers just trying to make sure options are clear.
