Fast Forward on the TF5800

Is there a TAP that will increase the fast forward speed to anything greater than just x8

In fact it is x6.

No strictly speaking but I hardly ever use FF because there are Quick Jumps. Much better than old FF which is either too slow or too fast and is just a hangover from VCR if you ask me. see

http://www.toppy.org.uk/downloads/index.php

for quick jump TAP

I quote from authors description

'This TAP turns the coloured buttons into ad skipping keys during playback of a recording or optionally timeshifting. The skip duration and direction are customizable for each button in case the defaults are not to your taste. It also optionally allows the use of the numeric keys to specify an absolute time to jump to, or to jump forward a specified number of minutes rather than a percentage. Full details are in the readme file that accompanies the TAP'.

You can also on standard Toppy move through a recording very fast by holding down FF or RW button until you get the yellow play bar. Plus you can punch in percentages e.g. 50 takes you to 50%; half way through a recording.

NB MyStuff EPG TAP has similar quick jump feature to above plus much more.

That enough?

Thanks once again. It seems as if you are the only one listeneing to my questions at the moment - I hope they don't sound too stupid but I'm new to Topfield (and quite new to forums in general)

Have a look around

http://www.toppy.org.uk

Most of the Toppisti hang around on there. You will almost always get quick answers on the forum there.

Have you tried keeping the FF button held down? You get a yellow progress bar displayed on the screen. OK, you can't see the progress on the screen as you move using this methid but you sure can shift through a recording...

Ive just tried it.

Its OK but I would prefer to scan through and watch the picture at a fast speed

I do not use FF at all - as Richard said, there are quite a few TAPs that will do the skip and you can set the duration. I do 30 seconds forward 15 seconds back, so if one of the 30 seconds takes it over the end of the adverts, 15 seconds back usually puts it just where I want it. FF, even if fast, is a pain. With my Fusion it was extremely fast, but I still used skip.

Interestingly, or maybe not, Topfield tell us that the 6X limitation is due to the limitation that the CAM (if fitted) cannot decode an encrypted stream faster than 6X.

My Dreambox will FF ay 128X through a hardware CAM and a softcam.....

Perhaps then if this is the case Topfield should have different FF speeds up to 6x if a cam is fitted and higher if not.

Like most people now i just stick to the Quick Jumps taps.

I use and like the Fast Skip TAP. Particular like this one as it's really easy and quick to jump through the ad breaks. It has a programmable jump (I have set mine to 4 minutes) and a 1 minute jump. With a few seconds timeout you can jump 1 minute at a time (or variable) and see a picture and then decide, do I want to jump again (forwards or backwards)

Quick jump is one of my fav taps, I get a warm fealing when watching a recording and the screen fades out for the ads ,one button press and it fades in again back to the recording bliss.
