The 'make somebody think they are going mad' storyline is an old movie plotline classic, but the cruel twist in Corrie is that they have linked it with alzheimers and senility, something that older people dread. My mum is almost eighty with a mind that's as clear as a bell and Corrie is her favourite soap but this Richard V Audrey storyline is really beginning to upset her. At first she found it incredible and mildly irritating, but now she really hates it and I'm beginning to feel the same.
Have the programme -makers thought about how older viewers feel about an older character being harrassed by a family member solely to murder her and get her money? I do some work for a charity for the elderly and it is shocking to discover that this kind of abuse actually happens in many families. It's not something to use as a device to increase viewing figures over many weeks. One week, fine, then show Richard up for the evil conniving crook he is. Or run a helpline number at the end of the programme. But this story seems to be going on forever with no end in sight and it's turning my mum - and me - off Corrie in a big way.
Just had to get that off my chest!
