Bill is in need of some forumite help and has sent us a message.

Quote:
“Dear dear Forumites. While I am delighted to be the subject of so much discussion on your threads, I can't help thinking you're all getting something for nothing.

Not any more.

Now is the time to put your money where your devoted mouths are, so to speak. I'm taking part in the Great North Run on October 1st for Marie Curie Cancer Care, and I need your help.

You know what to do - go to : http://www.justgiving.com/BillTurnbull and make your pledge. It's worth it just to see the shorts. Go on - write a post and make a pledge.

Thanks, and love, Bill T.”

Thank you Bill for the message and yes it is worth it to see the shorts, and I make my pledge for this very worthy and important cause.

So come on you forumites and support the Marie Curie Foundation and Ballroom Bill!

Yes I'll be on there too just as soon as I have thought about what message to write. Was going to sponsor him before I saw his message as I lost my Mum to Cancer when I was 17. Now he has made the effort to send the message to us, its time I made the effort to visit his website and sponsor him.

I agree Its a very worthy cause

Thanks for the lovely message Bill. I shall certainly be donating to help you on the way to your very ambitious total.

Can't think why you'd think we'd be interested in a picture of you in shorts though!

Once the season starts perhaps you could get some support from the Blues fans - they helped raise quite a bit for Brownie.

Hope the training is going well. You never know I may even get up there to cheer you on.

Thanks for the lovely message Bill. I was the first to donate on your page, well it might have been the shorts....

But having done something similar myself I know how much effort is involved and how hard it is to raise the money. So the very best of luck. And thank you for signing my SCD book at the London Eye and not being fazed by me thrusting a purple folder at you, aka 'This is your Life'...

Hope you enjoyed the biscuits as well.

Come on Forumites, support such a worthy cause and the one and only Ballroom Bill.

Apologies- I should have included this link last night.

It's from the Marie Curie website and outlines the benefits of the fundraising that Bill is doing.

http://www.mariecurie.org.uk/aboutus...hedistance.htm

As you can see, it is a huge amount and will be of huge benefit in research, that over the last couple of years has already made huge inroads in new chemotherapies, mono- clonal antibodies and the way radiotherapy can be administered.

Just want to add to my earlier post and thank Bill for this fantastic fundraising attempt.

My father was succesfully treated for a rare form of facial cancer three years ago , a cancer which say ten years ago he would not have survived.

This was due to the great inroads made in cancer treatment research , pioneering surgery and extensive radiotherapy.

Thanks Bill

Hi fellow forumites - hope you don't mind me joining in here - I'm usually to be found lurking on James's threads.

I would like to donate to Bill's worthy cause and have just been into the site - but I have a problem, you can only donate online with a credit/debit card and I don't have either - as I'm on disability benefits, prefer to deal in cash and am quite happy to send a postal order with a donation - but where to?

If anyone could help me out, please pm me

thanks

Hi Kimi

Have sent you a PM. And of course we don't mind. Do a bit of lurking over on the James Martin's sites myself.

In reply to Kimi's question- Just Giving only take sponsorship over the internet, thus credit/ debit cards are required.

But by contacting Marie Curie, or in the case of sponsoring another cause email the charity directly to see what other ways there are of sponsoring.

In Marie Curie's case they accept postal orders/ cheques, according to their website.

Hi forumites

Just to clarify, as a result of a couple of PM's that I received, wondering if the note from Bill was really from Bill.

Yes the note really is from the man himself

But as I neither want to put my email address up on the forum etc, nor Bill's, I just pasted it onto the forum.

Hope this helps!!

Awfully sorry Bill and Bill's fans. I'm supporting a man who has cancer, and is running in the GNR for another cancer charity.
Didn't want you to think I couldn't be bothered to donate to this worthwhile cause.
Best of luck to all on the forum who are running.

Thanks for that Tasi and best of luck to your friend who is running and everyone else, whatever their cause.

Do you think my sister will be annoyed when she gets back tomorrow to hear I've re mortgaged the house?

Seriously though, that is some serious fund raising (was getting a bit concerned) but that's a great achievement!

Well done Bill- you're on the home straight now

Now there's a thought... he only needs £55,474 to reach his target. I shall be making my donation this weekend but don't think I can quite stretch to that.

But well done Bill!

Absolutely amazing Bill. You must have been working very hard to get that amount raised in a short space of time.

Brilliant.
