Recording 2 channels but not view live channel?

Hi,

I was recording 2 diffrent channels at the same time ITV4 and film4, while this was going on, I tried to view BBC24 news, but could not tune into this?

So I tried Sky News could not tune into that?

This has happend before when recording 2 channels, and trying to view certain channels.

I have heard somewhere that you cant view channels on the same multiplex? Not sure what this means.

Any tips please?

Regards

Basically Digital Terrestial Services are at the moment transmitted in six groups or Multiplexes.

Here they are

In fact you have it the wrong way round with a Toppy you can watch a channel live if it is on one of the MUX you are recording.

When dual recording you can see what channels you can watch by pressing the ok key when on normal viewing. This shows a list of channels with some highlighted in light and some dark. All the light ones are available.

BTW, if you are recording 2 channels on the same mux (e.g. 2 BBC channels) then you will have the 2nd tuner free to choose any mux as the toppy will use one tuner to record both programs. In your case ITV4 and Film4 are on different mux's so you would have a limited number to choose from.

Dose this apply to all dual tuner freeview PVR ?

In the UK only the Toppy and IIRC the Humax.

........ have the ability to record two channels and watch a third (as long as its on the same mux as one of the channels being recorded, or if both channels are on the same mux)

Yes; that is what the thread has been about

Yep; lesser PVRs than the Toppy and Humax often have even more restrictions; for example, some twin tuner models - I think it includes the Sagems - simply use one tuner to record and one to watch, so you can't even record two things at the same time. Others force you to watch what's being recorded.

To the best of my knowledge, it's only the Toppy & Humax that give you a choice of other viewing, which is of necessity sometimes restricted.

If you tend to record from the main channels, of course you'll often have a selection that includes the other main ones available, and you don't tend to notice so much; it's amazing, though, how often you do take this for granted when you've had a Toppy for a while, and you find yourself frustrated at not being able to watch what you want on odd occassions.

I just remind myself, when that happens, that 18 months ago, when I just had a set top box and a video, I couldn't even watch one channel while recording another.

Thats why I have two other Freeview STBs hooked up to my TV (one through an HDD/DVDR)

To get round this I still have my (ex Sky) freesat box running still working.. So in theory I can record 2 programmes on my Toppy , record a third via the freesat box and VCR and watch a fourth programme on analogue. I must admit this is very rare, but you know how it is , there is nothing on for hours you want to watch then ( like London buses) three or four come along at once.
