Hifi with MP3 Connection

Hi Guys,

I have bought a Hifi "Sony CMT-NEZ50" which enables you to listen to your MP3 Player through your speakers by connecting your MP3 Player to your Hifi via a cable that plugs into the front (sort of a Headphone socket).

I have a Creative Zen 20GB Mp3 Player but I do not know what cable to purchase.

Can anyone help me and once I have bought it please can you tell me how to connect it

Thanks

Craig

It could be one of these that you need.

Yep - there are two ways of getting sound out of the Creative ZEN.

No.1 is digitally via the mini USB port to your computer, where you can use Creative Media Source to play the contents.

No.2 is analogue via the headphone socket, which you can also connecct to an amplifier.

According to my information, though, the Sony CMT-NEZ50 doesn't have ANY inputs - you can only use the sources provided on it.

The only way you can play MP3s, as far as I can tell, is to write them to a CD and play that.

Doubt it, there's nowhere to plug it in on the Sony!

That's the correct cable.

RobAnt,

This 'HiFi' has a 3.5mm input on the front.

Telly_Man was correcting the original poster - it's not 'Hifi' but 'HiFi' since it is an abbreviation made from two words.

It can't be the correct cable if WizUk says he has two phono ports on the front........

I can't see why this question is so difficult. WizUk, you simply need a cable that has the connectors that fit That would be a 3.5mm stereo jack on one end and whatever connector the HiFi has - if you say it has 2x phonos then you've answered your own question. You need a 3.5mm stereo jack to two phonos ie one of these.

I had a look on the sony uk support pages yesterday.
And it looks as though this HIFI may have 1x line in and 1x headpone socket.
But it seems the English PDF is unavailable and I was looking at the German product manual instead.
It may be that the other European versions of this product have slightly different specs. So I am not certain.

Looking at webshop product pages(UK ones)
for this HiFi some say it has no headphone socket/no line In and some say it has both

OP can you upload a pic of these sockets.

Or just borrow a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable from a friend and attach to your players Line Out or Headphone Socket and the other end into the HiFi's Line In Socket.
If sound comes out of your HiFi speakers you know it has worked.

I tried looking it up too, and could not find any reference to an input at all. I'm happy to be corrected if it does, but if I can't find the correct information, I can't give the correct advice.

So far as I could tell, there was a headphone socket on the front and that's it.

You can't "input" via a headphone socket.

If it has two RCA Phono sockets, as you say, then you need 3.5mm jack to two phono plugs - and I would have thought that was obvious anyway.

I wouldn't label this thing "high fidelity" - you don't get that for £75.

You get "a stereo" at best.

I don't know what I'd call it, but "HiFi" wouldn't be the first word that sprung to MY mind.

It's under the optional audio components bit at the end of the manual
The thing is the manual applies to a number of models in different countries which is why I said it may have.

Well they have only just fixed it because I tried it early this morning and it was still reading as 0.0mbs.
And when I clicked it would just shut firefox down

Anyway it tells me the same as the German version

The cable i linked to IS the correct cable, there's an identical socket at the other side for headphones.

Also, hooloovoo, it were nothing to do with the grammar, just simply that this isn't 'HiFi', as RobAnt said...

A better option would be to get a cheap DVD player that plays MP3s (they all do now) and an AV amplifier, ideally with a digital audio input on the back.

This cheap DVD player from Aldi would've been good. It has a memory card slot and USB input.

Bit late for that now though.

I currently listen to my iPod through my stereo through and 'Audio In' port too, however the '3.5mm to 3.5mm' cable I use is a cheapy one. Would buying a more expensive one improve the sound quality I get through my stereo? Please give me your advice!!!

Not really.

The main thing you could do to improve the quality would be to stop listening to compressed audio.
