MP3 player question
I wasn't sure whether I should post this in here or in music forum or what.
Can someone please tell me if you can connect an MP3 player, like say this one http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...ory_oid=-25959 to an in-car kit that plugs into the radio cassette player in the car? I have no idea about these devices, but I just thought there must be an easier way than lugging my entire cd collection back and forth to the car, and plugging in my personal cd player into the car cassette thing. I already obviously have the kit for this, and was wondering if you can use the same one, or if not is such a thing available? It would be so much simpler if so, but if not I guess I shall have to record all my favourite music onto cassettes, but that seems so last century!

Yup .... it'll work fine.
I use a cassette adapter and MP3 player in my car (makes the 6 disc multichanger in the boot seem crap ... lol). It's very convenient. ![]() (Although ... I should add .... that MP3 player you've linked to is rubbish. If you plan to get one, thats most definitely NOT the one to go for!) |

I didn't see the bit on the bottom. Why, what's up with it? I don't want to spend more than £30, I'm no music expert, and I want something that can store at least 5 or 6 hours of stuff. |

Can you not buy off the 'net?
You'll get a far better deal online ..... That one is only USB1.1 (slooooooooow) and 256mb for £30 is rubbish nowadays. |

Theres no way you can fit half decently encoded songs on that and get 5 or 6 hrs out of it |

Have you got a decent mobile phone?
If you have, and it can play MP3's and take extra memory, you're almost as well just buying a memory card for it and using that. I have 1gb in my phone an it takes around 10 albums, give or take an album or two either way depending on the quality of the encode. |

You can get a creative zen nano (256mb) for 29.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...teway&v=glance Not that I like Creative but it is certainly better than what you had picked. Or if you want your 5 hours worth go for one of these (1gb for 37.99) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...teway&v=glance It is NOT a good quality player but if you don't want to spend much you either have to compromise how much music you put on it or the quality of the player |

If you're just gonna go for some cheapo generic thing then ...
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Product...ce=PriceRunner ... thats as good as any really. They're all much of a muchness in that price bracket. That one is USB2.0 (faaaaaast), covers a decent range of common formats, has a radio and 1gb of memory. Same price as the rubbish thing from Currys. Oh ... and USB2.0 is useless if you don't have USB2.0 on your PC by the way! |

Lidl, Aldi or Netto (I can't remember which one) had a really good car stereo recently. It could play MP3s and had a memory card slot and USB. For about £60 it was an absolute bargain.
It should come around again some time so keep an eye out for it. |

Thanks for the new links to Amazon etc. I am learning a lot, some of those look really good. I still want to go to a shop and buy one tomorrow though, so it will have to be Comet, Currys or Argos. I will have a look for similar specs to those in the Amazon webpage now I know what to go for. Cheers everyone.

No probs.
If you're looking for a cheapo the key things to get are: USB2.0 connection (make sure your PC has USB 2.0 as well!) At least 1gb if you want 5-6 hours out of it Anything on top of that is a bonus but in the high street you're probably looking at around £40-£50 for a 1gb player at the cheapest end of the market. Oh .... as well as the big retailers, if you have any small independant computer stores or somewhere like maplins nearby, they're well worth a look as well. ** EDIT ** Cheapest I can see is a couple of 1gb players at Argos for £40. Or, if you want cheap and nasty, and quite big (but if your main use is in the car I don't suppose it matters if it's a bit chunky) then you will NEVER do better than this .... http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/...mp3-player.asp ... from Argos. 40gb for £50 is an absolute steal! Maybe not the best quality player in the world (far from it .... but if it works at all who cares .... it's only 50 quid!). I paid almost £300 for my current player and it's only 30gb. (Slightly better quality and higher spec than that one but it illustrates my point nicely) |
