HomeChoice Internet Help
Matbez7
28-07-2006
Hi, at the moment I have my homechoice box about 5 metres away from my computer, so obviously getting the internet to work is just as easy as plugging in as normal, however I'm looking to move my computer upstairs and get the internet wired up to there. Which obviously means I would need a longer cable, and I don't really want to go wireless. I also do not want to move my homechoice box.

What kind of cable would I need? (don't know the name of it) and is it possible to get a cable of sufficient length? (about 15 metres I'd imagine?)

Thanks.

You are looking for a Cat5 (or Cat5e) cable with RJ45 plugs (***NOT*** Crossover).

15m should be easily available from a good computer supplier but bear in mind that with the size of the plugs you may have larger holes to drill.

Thanks for the help.

I think I've found what I need, just to confirm would a 15M one of these work?

Yes. If you don't have guttering and don't want large holes for the plugs to fit through you can just get a reel of CAT5 and a plug kit, which will snap the plug to the cable after you lay it.

you could always phone H/C and ask them to relocate the service.
