O2 signal reception in Morden area (SM4) (merged)

Has anyone had any experience with phones on the O2 network in the Morden area?

I spent an hour (F' !) in the Wimbledon O2 shop buying a phone for my wife a few months ago. When she used it in Morden, in the shops, the signal kept dropping out. When I got ready to take it back to the Wimbledon O2, I found that it would work in shops on one side of the street, but not in many others on the other side of the street (The Broadway near Centre Court).

Now she wants a Samsung e870 which is O2-only, and that what she wants, and won't take my warning about the O2 network in the Morden area.

Anyone else use O2 in Morden? With a Samsung? With an E870 ?

Thanks!

Your wife obviously doesn't think its a problem.

No network guarantees 100% coverage, and some buildings are terrible for signal reception. I used to work in an office block and no-one could get any mobile signal on any network unless they were half hanging out of a window.

Perhaps your wife doesn't consider it as critically important that she is able to be contacted whilst she is deciding which pair of shoes she wants to spend your money on next

Thanks. Well, I am on Vodafone, and my Nokia works without fail everywhere in Morden and Wimbledon.

I remember years ago I had a Cellnet (now O2) phone for 2 weeks in Wimbledon, and the reception was crap. So I went over to Vodafone for 10 years. Then I was on T-Mobile for 18 months: good reception everywhere, but Absolute Crap customer support. So now I'm back with Vodafone.

BTW- It's her money, but my bank account, so I have to spend the time (15 minutes, okay; 1 whole hour, F'ing hell!) to fill out the paperwork...

So, I am really asking for O2 experiences in Morden/Wimbledon area; Was it just a bad phone, or a bad network?

As Dawson says it is probably the type of buildings that are causing the problems. If it works on one side of the street but not the other then it is one of the those problems that will probably always be here.

As you can see from the link above Morden has dark blue all over which shows its a 3G area, this in tern means the signal is about as good as it get overall.

Nowhere (nowhere) in Morden or Wimbledon did I ever have any problems with reception on Vodafone or T-Mobile. Not in any shop in either town.

In fact, O2 was so bad, I was getting dropouts in the middle of the street, in front of my house in south Morden !!!

Is this just a bad phone? Or is it Samsung? Or is it O2?

( My Samsung on T-Mobile did just fine anywhere inside/outside any shop in Morden and Wimbledon. I get perfect reception on my Nokia everywhere in/out of Morden & Wimbledon as well... )

Why take the risk? Why not just sign up with Vodafone since you know that works perfectly where you need it to and you seem happy with them overall as a network.

The Samsung E870 is certainly available on Vodafone. Did a quick google and found it at mobiles.co.uk, but there may be better places to purchase it from, so do some research before you buy.

Thanks. I looked at the Vodafone site and it was not listed. I'll check elsewhere.

Where's a good deal to get a Samsung E870 phone, but not on the O2 network (terrible reception where I live)

Both Vodafone and T-Mobile have good networks (Morden SM4 area), but O2 is terrible here.
