440 - help with scart switching issue

Hi, can any of you guys help?

I'm using component video out to my new telly but I've got ye olde scart lead connected aswell (just for old time's sake)

every time I play a DVD the scart switches my telly to EXT1 and I have to change the telly to component on the remote. The same happens when I press Guide

Can I disable the scart switching? Or do I have to unplug it?

On the American version of my telly it has "auto sensing wideband component inputs" which i've never heard of. Does it have a 4th lead to carry the switching signal? Or is it carried on one of the colour channels? like I think mine carries the sync signal on the green (sync-on-green) I think

You don't say what make of TV, so one can't really answer.

Mine has an option to disable scart switching somewhere in its menus. Yours may or may not have such an option.

my new TV is a Samsung Slimfit HD-Ready CRT

I was thinking more along the lines of stopping the 440 from sending the switching signal via scart in the first place, not disabling the sensing on the TV. I'll look into it, cheers

Is there any reason why I should have my scart plugged in? Appart from component being output only. I haven't tried the "pause live TV" function, not sure if my TV supports AVLink anyway

Make sure you are in DVD mode on the Pioneer by pressing the TV/DVD button (under the flap) and making sure it says DVD mode, this may resolve the switching back all the time.

If you are watching via Componet in progressive scan you will not have any automatic wide screen switching signal, if using interlaced component their is a switching signal present. While watching video's (i.e. anything recorded of the TV) interlaced output could be better quality than progressive as it means your TV de-interlaces at the same time as up scaling the image, so the processing is done once at the same time. Then switch to progressive when you watch a film on DVD.

Regards

thanks Phil, you solved my problem! I switched to DVD mode and no more pesky scart switching!

The scart is still connected, I tried "pause live TV" this evening but it said "can't record". I guess my TV doesn't support AVlink then.

I'm just gonna leave the component output set to progressive all the time, I can't be bothered going into the initial setup menu every time I want to watch a DVD

cheers for your help, its much appreciated!
