02 SIM transfer to new phone?
Oldvinyl
31-07-2006
Just bought new Sony Erikson K310i in Comet. They told me how to transfer existing SIM card into it but I forgot most of it.
Anyone know what the procedure is? I have to contact O2 or something?

Do you mean transfer your number or actually just put your existing sim card into your new phone?

If you mean the former, you'll have to ring O2.
If you mean the latter, Take the battery out of your old phone then take the SIM out and put in the new phone.

Take the SIM card out of the old phone and put it into the new phone. You'll have the same mobile number, you'll still have your calltime credit and you'll still have all your names and numbers.

Well trained guy then!

Unless..........

You will need to transfer it if you are starting a new contract sim, then all you need to do is ring O2 and they will sort it for you.

You CAN do that. The mobile networks encourage that you keep your current SIM card.

Except you won't have the numbers stored on your old phone, unless you copy them to your sim first

RTFM if you need to do this.

Whats is RTFM? I think all my saved numbers are on the SIM which is now in new phone as I received a text & new phone recognised name.

But ..... I have a "Use secondary account?" when I want to use the phone, I dont want to press 'yes' or 'no' in case i'm wrong .....what does it mean?

Call 5450 from your 02 handset, when ready to upgrade.

They give you up to £50 credit for upgrading.

1. There is nothing about "Use secondary account" in TFM

2. Life's too short to RTFM and decipher it ..... its easier to come on here (except that this time nobody seems to know what "Use secondary account" means

The RTFM comment was posted in relation to how to transfer numbers stored on your old handset as opposed to sim. As you you said, because your life is too short to RTFM it appears you haven't managed to store any numbers there in the first place so don't worry

The 'secondary account' issue (which you posted afterwards) relates to a secondary/alternative number that some networks allow you to have. I guess you only have one number for your phone and I'm pretty sure O2 do not support this function anyway, so press no.

Page 25 of the user guide refers to this

Make seperate calls with different phone numbers if your subscription supports alternate line service”

Thanks, but ........
At great expense to my time and patience I looked at Page 25 of TFM ...... there is no mention of the phrase "secondary account". Do you need skills in extra sensory perception to understand TFM?

No, you just need to look & understand what is written.

Which part of my post does not make sense to you? Can you not see the part I have quoted from page 25?
