... how to write descriptive subject lines?
... how to pick the correct forum to post in?
... how to spell Vodafone?
... how to search the internet for answers?

To check your balance, dial *#1345#

Heh, I like it. A snarky, cutting dig juxtaposed with the kindness of the actual answer to the question!

I've never got on with Vodafone. Friends with Vodafone phones tend to have difficulty getting reception in my area, as they did the area I lived in before! Do you get a signal anywhere?

I've never used PAYG on Vodafone but I thought I should give the answer if I was going to have the pleasure of being snarky! I came back to a Vodafone contract about 18 months ago after a brief flirtation with O2 and I haven't regretted it. I get excellent signal virtually everywhere I go and that includes some pretty remote campsites and up on the mountains in the Lakes. Only rarely will someone else have signal when I don't and on those occasions it tends to be Orange who trump Vodafone.

Ah. Maybe I've just lived in unlucky areas with regard to Vodafone, but mine - Orange - has always been excellent, as you mention above. Although Orange signals don't tend to cope very well with the old, solid concrete flat that my girlfriend lives in...
