here my 18th is coming up and i have asked my parents to get a laptop for it, which makes sense as my brother got his for his 18th. I am a recently converted Mac person. I was wondering whether i should get a Macbook or a Macbook pro. I know the macbook is better value for money.
My question is does the Macbook allow for a 7,200 rpm hard drive required for things like ProTools and Cubase and Logic? Or is that feature just limited to the Macbook Pros?

Well a quick google reveals that people have certainly done this.
Wether or not it is a good idea I can't say.
It may even void your warranty.
Sorry I can't be more help

If you want to replace the hard drive, its really easy to on the macbook, but you need to take the macbook pro apart to get to the hard drive.

Macbook can do everything the MBP does but it's smaller and can't play demanding games. Everything else, including cubase and photoshop will run at pretty much the same speed as the MBP.

The only big difference I reckon is that the MBP has a dedicated graphics card where as the MP has integrated graphics. Personally, I am using a qhite 2.0Ghz MB and it is fine.

I guess it depends what you want to do, but for me the MP fits the bill (iLife stuff, web, some music, email, essays etc.)

If you are getting MBP, hold off for a couple of months....they're getting a processor upgrade to Merom (i.e Core-2-duo) whereas MacBook will be sticking to Core-1-duo).

Hope this helps you make your decision.

I decided to go for the white 2.0GHz Macbook in the end. I customized it so that i got 100Gb in my hard drive and 1Gb of RAM

Whatever you get get one with a glossy screen, it's an unbelievable improvement on an anti-glare screen coating

I agree with those saying you are as well with the Macbook.

BUT if you do decide to go for the MBP you definately should wait, as they are about to be upgraded .

I read that rumour also. Probably true. The difference of course is that at the moment the Macbook as it stands are amazing specs for the money, but the Macbook Pro seems a little pricey for what you get.

Apple will probably upgrade the MBP first, in order to make more of a difference between the two...
MBP will probably get Merom next month, and perhaps Macbook will get them for the Christmas shopping season...

...But what do I know...

I think that they will probably upgrade the iMac first seeing as that as been out the longest without even a price drop or a spec upgrade. Maybe though they will introduce them though all at the same time.

The 15inch MBP's came down in price by £100 in around May of this year when the 17 inch MBP was introduced and also the models got a bump in processor speeds as well for no extra cost.

The Merom model could come out relatively soon or it could come out in Spring of next year.

People have been saying that a new iPod has been coming out since April/May of this year and i am glad that i didn't wait to get a new one or else i would still be waiting.

If you buy a computer direct from Apple and a new model comes out within 14 days i believe that you are allowed to exchange your model anyway for the newer model.

I had thought as well that the MacBooks were likely to come out with the Conroe chip which is a cheaper version of the Merom chip but maybe not.
