everything has gone from i-tunes

I hope someone can help me.

I have just opened my i-tunes as normal and it has been completely wiped. All 3700 songs are missing as are all of my folders etc. I have some backed up but not all, even so, it takes hours to put them all back on.

Anyone know why this has happened and if there is anything I can do at all?

I have tried system restore to a point that I know they were on and that didn;t work. My i-pod was pluggd intoo, so the songs hav gone off that!

Perhaps the iTunes library files have been moved/erased, but the tracks themselves are still there? This would be the best case scenario, and may mean you have only lost playlist and rating info rather than the tracks themselves.

My library files (iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml) are stored in

C:\Documents and Settings\_username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes - which I think is the default location.

I moved the iTunes library itself to another partition.

Try Explorer (assuming you're running Windows, of course), and locating where the files would be, and if not there, maybe searching for them.

I've had iTunes wipe an iPod before, but not had it wipe the files off my PC - although I keep a backup as a precaution on an external drive.
