Interesting that according to the Radio Times, Celtic v AC Milan is live on 5 Live this Tuesday with Alan Green ,Mike Ingham and Pat Nevin. I find that hard to believe with Arsenal and Man Utd both playing.

Makes some sense to cover Celtic-AC Milan as the main commentary match: Man Utd's game is live on TV in any home with any sort of TV, Arsenal's game is live in any home with any form of digital TV (I'm pretty sure), but Celtic's game is only on a pay channel. Also, a match against AC Milan has far more *feeling* about it, in the context of the European Cup/Champions' League throughout history, than one against Lille or PSV Eindhoven, for all that the latter did once win it. If it was Man Utd or Arsenal against AC Milan, I'm sure that would be live even if it was on ITV1 and Celtic's game was only on Sky.

Who remembers the mid-late 80s days when Scottish clubs' European ties got more live radio coverage than before or (generally) since, entirely because of the post-Heysel ban on English clubs? Mike Ingham used to commentate on those games (often featuring Rangers when Souness had lured a load of English players who wanted to play in the European club competitions without having to move to the continent) for Radio 2 MW alongside the underused Roddy Forsyth, who should really be commentating on Tuesday IMHO.

Strangely, RTE will regularly use the same reporters from the same matches as Irish independent radio's network INN are using via IRN....

Sorry. His preview was about HKR so I assumed he was there.

For those interested in Local Radio Rugby League commentaries (although not directly relevant to this thread), BBC Radio Merseyside covered Warrington v Hull (Alan Rooney and Ray French), BBC Radio Leeds covered Wakefield v Salford (Terry Crook & ?Gary Byrne?) whilst BBC Radio Humberside covered Warrington v Hull (David Doyle-Davidson and ?Lee Richardson?) and HKR (Gwilym Lloyd, Chris Park and Paul Parker).

Footygirl, welcome to this forum, especially in your role as a reporter.

I understand that you are working on a Saturday but, if you are able, can you let me know who is currently reporting on Newcastle and Sunderland for Metro FM please?

Now that Peter Graves (which is a name I do not know) has taken over the commentary for the Newcastle games, has Phil Blacker been '"returned" to London?

Thanks for the kind welcome. O.K here goes.
Phil Blacker has gone. Peter Graves who I think used to work for Metro has taken over the Newcastle commentaries.

Metro FM 's Sunderland comentators are Simon Crabtree and Gary Rowell

Looks like we'll have to make do with discussing radio commentary with the Martin Tyler thread closed!

Does anyone know who did the Five Live commentary on Reading v Man Utd last night?

It was Conor Macnamara and Mike Ingham. Ian Brown reported then commentated from WBA v Boro. (I can't remember who summarised at the Mad Stad.)
