So who exactly has/is going to make a career out of tourettes?
Okay, I can't be bothered as no answer is obviously going to come this side of 2007.”
*headdesk* I have been avoiding your posts because you seem to have a knack to make me lose my cool!
John D's documentary was made over fifteen or twenty years ago and he was paid to do PAs since then. That's what I was referring to. It's not a bad thing that he's making a career out of it. He deserves every penny whenever he gets a chance because, let's face it, there aren't many good employment prospects for him, no thanks to this society who are actually disabling the likes of him and others by not making reasonable adjustments, but that's another story. He's a natural entertainer as proven in a project he's done for Disability Arts Forum, so why not?
That applies to the likes of Mik Scarlet, Alison Lapper, Victoria Lucas, Ramon Woolfe, Mat Fraser, and every one who puts themselves in public spotlight, well knowing that they would be criticised from here to China.
Hm, maybe we should pass a memo around in national disability community:
Quote:
“ It's fine if you do a documentary to raise awareness, but do not think of doing a national TV competition because it would be so wrong. All your dreams of becoming rich and famous or whatever must die because, you know, you are disabled.
You can only have a career in community work or the voluntary sector, raising awareness and reminding everyone that you're a sufferer, struggling against discrimination, prejudices and all that crap. Go forth, my friends, and show them how we have suffered.”

Please.
Anyway, I'd better stop as I'm not making sense now, but I have to admit that when people talk about personal gain, advantages and disabilities, I get pissed off a bit too easily. Unfair, but I'm that thin-skinned because I'm sick and tired of it, which is why I'm trying my best to avoid responding to posts like yours.
I'll buy you a drink when all's cool, though.
