Universal Remote Control for Pioneer 440 and Humax 9200T
ByTheCringe

Can anyone please recommend the best universal remote control that will allow all the functions of the 440 and of the Humax 9200T to be controlled without going under flaps, using shift, etc. Ideally the codes would already be included, or could be programmed or learnt to be on the buttons I choose. I would also like to be able to control several other items, like TV, so about 10 devices total capability would be needed. Price is not really a consideration.

I am using a Logitech Harmony 525 remote with my DVR-440HX, it was £70 from Commet or Curry's (can't remember which)

it has a USB cable and a "learn" feature.

Logitech claim to have a database of over 10,000 devices. That may be true, most of my devices are listed, but only about 50% actually work without using "learn"

this was a big problem when the remote packed up on my Wharfedale DVD-M3 and I hadn't bothered to teach it the controls. I had to scour Google to find an equivalent machine, luckily the Technika DVD-1020 was the same thing wiht a different badge and that was listed and it worked

Thanks for responding. Can I ask specifically how have you got the keys set up for input selection? I find it annoying to have to press several times to change from external to digital tuner to external again. Is it possible to make it two buttons, so that one button sends one press, the other sends three?

I think the Humax buttons are all plain sailing comparatively.

I have a Marantz RC2000 MK2.
Its deleted and unobtainable now but its a fully learning remote,so you can programme any function you want with it.
Having tried One For All models,Philips Pronto,Logitech Harmony and another 6 or 7 on the market,I returned to the Marantz.
Its not as flashy as the other but it works 10 devices and on my setup it controls 2 Pioneer DVDR',A Panny tv,Humax PVR,Sky+160,Panny VHS,Denon Amp,Topfield Satellite receiver, and every function is working.
The LOgitech and others are ok for simple systems, but when I used a Harmony it could not work out how to control a Manhattan Satellite(would not even learn the codes) and for Pioneer dvd recorders, most of the codes were missing and had to be learned.
I have a second Marantz to sell, the only thing is that the numbers on a few of the keys are fading .

It looks like you can pick up the 525 remote for around £50 on the internet, so i'm tempted.

Can you tell me if it's possible to program one of the buttons to eject? As you can't learn it as it's not on the 440 / 540 remote.

I don't think so.
Although there is a way you may be able to do it.........

Find some Pioneer devices that deffinately have an eject button on the remote. Add all the devices to your Harmony remote and then try and see if any work.
Bugger, my idea isn't gonna work, how are you gonna get the harmony to teach itself? mirrors? maybe borrow a friend's?
Or, when you find a device that works, just delete all the other buttons and just switch to that device for the purposes of ejecting

Actually I can get that to work, as I have an old Philips Pronto learning remote that I could use. Thanks for the idea!

I can simply get it set up on the philips using the Pioneer 530 setup, and then use the harmony to learn the code from the pronto.
