Cool if its true.Be good to see Paul Mcgann getting one last chance to play the Doctor on screen.Time to start offering Ecclestone loads of cash (just to lie on his back for a few seconds-come on Chris do it for us fans) to complete the missing regeneration.

I doubt he would.

The Other killed himself by diving in to the genetic looms that were then used to grow new Gallifreyans, and the suggestion was to be that the Doctor was essentially his "reincarnation" through genetic chance or whatever. The Doctor and Susan recognised their bond (suggesting the Doctor had at least some of The Other's memories) and set out travelling, thus explaining how the Doctor could have a granddaughter without necessarily ever having had a proper "child" as such. I'd though the reference to the Doctor being a father was a reference to that, and nothing more, though it's certainly possible RTD wants to make more of it.

It is established that Gallifreyans are sterile though. I suppose you could always get round that with some alien dohickey like DNA transplantation though, rather than procreation in the old fashioned sense.

Where is it established that they are sterile? If it is in Lungbarrow then it is not Canon.

They could easily get around the Doctor being able to procreate sexually with a woman by the debateable fact that he is half human.

If he were real, I doubt the newspapers' "source" would get it wrong, the Doctor has three lives left, not two.

It wouldn't surprise me if at some point they do introduce a member of the Doctor's family, but never as a way of continuing the show should the Doctor die, would we really want "Doctor Who Jnr."

And where they got that "doomed love affair" stuff from is anybodys guess.

Plus the Valeyard.

And also, if they even *were* considering Doctor Who Junior, feasibly, his son could appear much older than him, because the 10th Doc only looks young cos he's played by David Tennant. His son, if a Time Lord, could be played by, say, Derek Jacobi or someone if they wanted!

(Cue opening credits

"David Tennant"

"Freema Agyeman"

"Doctor Who"

"With Special Guest Star: Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor."

"Nah - only joking!"

"The Time War by Russell T Davies"

Correct me if i'm wrong, but everyone's saying he has 13 lives. I thought he had 13 regenerations, which means 14 lives?

So we've still got 4 more docs (well 3 + Valeyard).

And Wouldnt it be great (and really annoy some people) if it turned out that his child is The Master?

12 regenerations, 13 lives.

If I remember correctly the Valeyard only claimed to be the Doctor's last regeneration, and someone else said that it was only a possible version of the Doctor's last life, or somewhere between the 12th and 13th.

"Doctor Who bosses have found a way to prevent the much-loved Time Lord from dying out.

By giving him a son"

The Express has made that sound as if its a good idea.

Honestly, if this is the best that the DW writers can do, the BBC needs to question the quality of thier staff.

The Valeyard is between the Doctor's Twelfth and Final regeneration. He was seen to disappear at the end of "Trial of a Timelord". He is still at large, believe me. Pity though, my alter ego would rather see him dead.

I'm with many others on the lack of a bombshell in this bombshell. He has a granddaughter, he mentions once being a father, and then we're supposed to be all shocked when we find he has a son.

Errr... Not so mucn, RTD.

all sounds a bit 'soapy' to me. not particularly bothered whether he has a son or not (unless there is some amazing twist to it) as if the intention is to pass the title of The Doctor down to his sibling when he has reached the end of his regnerations then it is rather naff. others have come up with far more ingenious ideas as to how he could continue without having to drag some relation, assumed dead, out of the closet, that would have far more impact. sure this revelation has been headline grabbing I am not disputing that but it does smack of being sensationalist for the sake of it. oh well the proof of the pudding is always in the tasting so we shall see how things pan out in episode 13 of series 3.

I'm to offend anyone but this whole idea of them introducing his child sounds awful there are some things about the Doctor that should remain a secret that's what makes him so alien - we know nothing about him.

I've liked Doctor Who for a long time and so I'm really pleased it's back on the telly. RTD and his team have worked wonders in making the new series a success, with it's mix of comedy, drama, sci-fi and soapy bits. However, as much as I apprieciate RTD's hard work, if he can't come up with something better than having a son take over the title of The Doctor when he reaches the end of his "life cycle" then frankly the BBC need to rethink his role as exec producer. Doctor Who does not need long lost relatives coming out of the wood work; it's a sci-fi programme, not a bloomin' soap opera.

No it isn't, it's almost as bad as the aborted US-version's scripts which had the Doctor looking for his father (who was really lost in Atlantis or some other such nonsense).

that aspect of it worked with the Tylers but I thought with the departure of Rose we might go in a different direction. lets see how things come to pass as the whole thing could have been whipped up to generate publicity in the same way the story about The Doctor regenerating into a woman did frequently back in the 80's. Still think him finding his son is a bad idea and is very Star Wars........
