Good morning

I know this is tedious, and you will think I'm not very bright, but I'm very confused over how to connect my kit:

* Samsung TV = 1 SCART / Component [Pr/Pb/Y + audio L&R] + aerial in

* Sky+ = 2 Scart / aerial in& out / audio L&R

* HXD710 = 2 Scart / Component / S-video /aerial in&out / audio L&R etc etc

* SLV-SE740 = 2 Scart / aerial in&out / phono

* Hifi amp with 2 available phono inputs

Also numerous Scart leads and a "smart scart" switch box

What I want to do is straightforward, I hope:

* watch & record witg Sky+

* copy programmes Sky+ -> HDD

* watch HDD/DVD

* watch VHS and/or copy to HDD/DVD

* Play sound through my hifi

Every diagram I find is different - and I've tried various connections without success. But I'm sure lots of people here can give me the right advice.

Scart 1 = Sony 710 (Line 1) - TV (av1), Scart 2 = Sony 710 (Line 3) - Sky+ (TV), Scart 3 = Sky+ (VCR) - Video (L1).

Aerial 1 = Aerial (Source) - Sony 710 (in), Aerial 2 = Sony 710 (out) - Video (in), Aerial 3 = Video (out) - Sky+ (in), Aerial 4 = Sky+ (out) - TV (in).

Make sure that both the Sony 710 and Sky+ are set to rgb and 16:9 if the tv is widescreen or 4:3 letterbox if not. Also, make sure the tv aspect ratio under picture settings, 4:3 default is set to regular NOT panoramic as it stretches the pic.

The Sony 710 and Video have tv/dvd and tv/vcr on their remote controls; they are priority switching buttons which toggle between their own display on the tv and whatever else is currently on at that time.

To watch Sky+ whilst manually recording with Sony 710 tuner: Press TV/DVD on Sony 710 just before pressing REC on recorder.

To watch Video whilst either recording Sky+ or recording Sony 710 tuner: Put Sky+ in standby and press TV/DVD on Sony 710 just before pressing REC on recorder.

Connect phono's from Sony 710 to amplifier - this should send audio from everything to the amplifier depending which one you are watching on the tv.

To record Sky+ onto Sony 710 - switch on Sky+ and enter your personal planner, select program to record or set to copy, switch on Sony 710, select LINE 3 with input select button (under flap bottom left), press TV/DVD, simultaneously press REC on Sony 710 and play on Sky+, press tv and channel number on Sky+ remote to watch an analogue programme. To watch the Video when this is recording, you need to tune in a spare channel on the tv to the Video's modulator frequency.

Sky default = 68 uhf and video default normally 23 uhf.
