Switching Network

I am looking to change network to Orange. I rang T-MOBILE and got my PAK code, and then rang Orange. Because I want to transfer my number, I don't need my phone unlocking, said T-MOBILE. Orange said then my phone was all set to go, and I tried.

My phone just said it had the wrong SIM Card

How do I fix it?

T-mobile and Orange lock their phones to their network. You will need an unlatching code from T-mobile.

God knows why they told you it would work on Orange as no T-mobile phone unless unlocked is going too.

They said it would because I was keeping the number.

The phone/SIM card aren't to know you are keeping the number.

You have a mobile locked to T-Mobile, you have now an Orange SIM, you need to unlock the phone for it to work.
