O2 GPRS; possible to use full internet?

I understand that O2 block all ports except 80, or something along those lines. AFAIK this is the reason I can't use MSN and other applications which use ports other than 80.

I'm just wondering if there is a way to get around this block, a proxy perhaps?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I've never had any problems using the internet with O2 gprs. What errors do you get?

if you're on o2 payg then pretty much everything is blocked, on pay monthly you can access anything.

Why do they block it on PAYG. Surely if you've no credit then you cant access. Got credit, they should let us use it.

I have to admit, I've had problems in the past trying to use MSN on my O2 handsets.

I am on contract and had a K750i previously and that wouldn't work with it.

I know have a K800i so will try again and see what happens. The 3G part should make a faster internet connection too

Just curiously, what software title connects to the MSN network from mobiles?

I've just downloaded Mig33 and that works perfectly.

It gives the option to use TCP connection or HTTP. Obviously if O2 are blocking ports then you select HTTP as this routes the communication through port 80 which they don't block and means that MSN messenger works fine.

If you've tried it in the past on O2 and it's not worked it may be that the app is trying to use TCP which would connect on standard ports (blocked), so try one that supports HTTP which uses port 80 as standard and you should be fine.

Mig33 has the bonus of connecting to Yahoo as well (which I don't use) and also gives you some free credit for SMS and calls on their network if you register it (free registration) or you can use it as is.

Cheers for the Heads Up lala - I've just downloaded it for me N80 on 3 (as 3 haven't made the existing Msn Messenger client compatible with me phone - yet [Grr]) and it certianly seems a lot better than eMsn.

I wish IM+ & Agile messenger allowed connections through Http...
