is there any way of connecting the ipod to the car so it plays through the speakers?

You can either get an iTrip or there is a connector which you put in your cars cassette player.

Have a look at the Griffin iTrip. Works well in my car, it is an FM transmitter, the car radio picks up the signal and plays through the car speakers. Just google Griffin itrip to have a look and buy.

... or, if you're really lucky, your car stereo might have a line-in jack on the front panel.

If you're feeling really flush, you could always invest in a Denison Ice Link.

A word of warning with I-trips. At the moment they are illegal to use (effectively you are being a pirate radio station) but Ofcom are removing the regulations but this will not be until xmas.

Most of the I-trips on the market are of poor quality so you might want to wait until official ones come out. Most of the i-trips in the UK come from the states but only 2 (1 by Griffin and 1 by Belkin) comply with european standards.

Even if you don't have a line in on the front panel you can still play another source through the head unit. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I purchased the item above which fits easliy into the back of th stereo and you just plug into the Ipod and away you go.

My one was for a renault car, I dare say the same sort of thing can be done to other makes.

I use the Belkin one, not bad a 30 quid, quality of sound could be a little better.

We could be accused of being a pirate station when we played tapes and CDs, especially at the volume some people play their music

The worst thing is when I want to hire a car. I have to make a CD to play in the car, when I want to use my mp3 instead.

Griffin are the ONLY company who make iTrips.

You could buy the Belkin one - or buy an identical unit for a third of the price (same manufacturer according to the website)

Bought one the other day - not bad - does the job...

I'd sooner buy an iTrip as it's more compact, fits to the iPod and doesn't require batteries.

Just my opinion, of course.

I think he was refering to transmitting music and not actually playing it.

I doubt that anybody would get done for using an iTrip though as I'm sure it would be laughed out of court.

If your car is a newer model it might be worth checking if there is a line in socket into the car stereo (a lot of new cars have them).

I know all the new Fords have one (in my Mondeo it's a little socket in the glovebox so all I have to do is get a lead for it).
