er ... it's fiction mate, you don't have to BELIEVE it! If we're all so dim, why are you on this thread talking to us? Couldn't an intelligent person like you find something more uplifting to do? Okay, soap opera isn't high art, but it is slightly more challenging than a lot of the pap on the box - like low-budget quiz shows. ”

Really!!! I thought it was real..........

I didn't say I didn't find them entertaining but you have to start worrying when we are on the eve of going to war and the front page of a national newspaper has Little Mo's wedding as it's lead story!

I can see them as a bit of a laugh and indeed something to moan about but a lot of people seem to confuse fact with fiction......remember the 'Free Deirdre' campaign! More people seem to be concerned with the future of a fictional character than would ever campaign for any serious issues that actually affect our lives. It's a crazy world we live in.............

Exactly why does it matter if people spell correctly? I for one only use this great board for info rather than deep political discusions?? I mean if someone is discussing corrie does it really matter?? When i want to expand my mind I head over to the discovery forums. You cant tell me when you were younger you didnt use slang? Times change and so does vocabulary as well as the ways we use language! You see not only did u generalise about people under 18 but you got it wrong! We only use "text Speak" when we are using the internet and mobile phones I dont know one person that would hand GCSE coursework full of Y's, L8rz or M8's?? Okey?

It's preferable for members not to use 'text speak' when posting on DS, as it is generally felt that it detracts from the quality of the post being made.

However, let's get back to the topic of the thread; this isn't the place to debate the rights or wrongs of 'text speak'.

Oooops sorry I didn't read your post until I had posted, but I do feel discussing the effects of soaps on the modern language is relevant in this board but maybe not in this thread!

I think that's a valid and interesting discussion topic. However, as far as text speak goes - it's not so much that it detracts from the quality of the discussion, it just excludes loads of people. I am used to reading English and it takes me a long time to decipher text speak. For some people the effort's just too much. So while I can put up with bad grammar and spelling, having to translate a load of numbers into letters is too much like hard work!

Hey!
Sorry about the preious post I was in one of them moods! lol! I was reading through a spoiler I found on a site a While back and it also mentions the idea of Whitness Protection Ect.. Oh by the way dreamer I found it quite ironic (SP?) that, that page you directed me to says and I quote:

Mrs Barnes said she had seen exam papers where pupils used "soap opera language" in essays.

Lol i am sorry I just found it kind of amusing!

Looks like Xmas in Corrie will be fun! (Would u want to live there)
