hi there,

i brought a new k800i last sat. it seems to have the latest software on it.

the problem is,every now and then if looking at a photo on the mem card, the card will suddenly disappear.
the only way to see the mem card again is to reboot the phone.

the mem card is a SONY 512mb

Anybody else have this problem ?????

No, but I am having a problem with the Bluetooth on that phone, it has a few bugs and a mate of mine is having problems with the phone crashing.

It appears this phone may be suffering from the usual new model issues and hopefully a software release will resolve all these issues.

I try every week on the auto update feature to update it in the hope that SE will release an update asap.

The memory card shouldn't become loose. Make sure it is properly inserted and secure.

I thought that at first, but if simply turning the phone off and on again finds the memory card then it doesn't sound like a loose card problem, more like a software issue.

I think gargleroadside was being pedantic

Can't say i've had any problems with the memory card on my K800i (T-Mobile if that makes any difference) - except the first time I plugged it in, it wasn't secured properly.

With regards to the Bluetooth problems - what are they? The only one i've seen is that if you connect to a headset with no signal it never gets a signal until you reboot the phone - however if you connect, then loose the signal, it will reconnect just fine. Rather annoying when you are parked at the bottom level of a multi-story car park (whos top level is at street level)

The Bluetooth issue that I have is that it doesn't seem compatible with many handsfree devices. There are other people having this issue too it would seem after a search on google. The only solution Sony can offer is their own handsfree kit, which will be compatible with it, making mine that I've used with all my other Bluetooth phones useless and now costly to replace

My mate's had problems with file transfer via Bluetooth, although I have yet to try this properly on mine so haven't had this problem yet.

Can't say I have had any problems with the bluetooth. All my files transfer perfectly to my PC and to other Sony Ericsson phones.

As for memory card, I got a 1GB card and had no problems at all yet.

If you're phones on contract, just phone up your operator and tell them there's a fault, and they will replace it (Vodafone do this with or without insurance if it's a faulty phone - and always next day delivery).

My phone's not faulty in their eyes, it's working as designed. I sort of agree with them too as I've tried three K800i phones on my car kit and so far they all do the same thing.

I am on O2, my mates on Orange and another on Vodafone (hate what they've done to the K800i by the way) and all 3 have the same problem that they disconnect a few seconds after connecting to the kit. SE have acknowledged this and said they can't gaurantee their phones will work with all Bluetooth devices.

So O2 don't have to swap my phone for another as it's a problem with design, not an individual fault on the phone.

I don't know what car kit yours is, but on my Parrot one I am running in Sony Ericsson K750i Compatability mode (as I had to with my D750i) which is present on the newest firmware. Might be worth checking if a firmware upgrade is available for your car kits?

As for file transfer then i've not had a single problem - i've found the PC Suite didn't like my old 3COM card though (used a shitty propriatory software - not the Microsoft of Widecomm Stacks)

Works fine with my Logitech Bluetooth Headset too (a freebie with my T630 around 3 years ago), provided you pair with the phone before the call is in place (if it's turned on and in range it does that automagically)

That's why I prefer O2 phones to other networks, no branding or locking of their phones meaning you get full control and not a locked down handset.

There doesn't seem to be an indication of a pending upgrade, but I suspect we'll see something before too long, probably over the next few months as bugs are reported back from users.

It's a new phone, so there should be quite a few upates over the next year or so.
