SHARP LC32GD8E

Tried searching here, google, cnet etc for a review of this tv.
Saw it in the flesh and was very impressed [£655 at Dixons].

1st entry to HD - xbox360 coming next week - sky+ will be upgraded to HD at Christmas, so new TV is now on the agenda.

I've also been looking at the Samsung LE32R73BD - again, good picture from my limited experience.

Does anyone have the Sharp?

Regards

Bought this tv last week and it is very good on sd content from freeview and sky+, just got an LG HDMI dvd this morning and dvds are now fantastic quality, the only thing is you have to spend time setting up the various settings to get the picture how you like it, straight out of the box and I didn't like it but after an hours messing about got the picture spot on .

Thanks for that.

My mates trying to put me off going for it because it only has 1 HDMI input.

Yes, it may be inconvient swapping leads around when I eventually get Sky HD - but should that be something to worry about?

I see you've now got an HDMI dvd - similar situation I suppose

Cheers

Yes as far as i'm concerned the one hdmi is the only drawback but you can get switching units and I am going to the US in October so will try and pick up a cheap unit there.

Very spooky indeed I am going to Orlando 14th Oct till the 28th.

Where are you staying?

Just watched Chelsea on Sky and the picture was better than my 18 month old 32"JVC 100hz crt, which I have just sold to my dad for a massive loss but what the hell my Sharp is now my pride and joy.

Might see you in Perkins or the Golden Corral for breakfast - or Bahama Breeze/Pebbles/Tony Romas/Macaroni Grill/Outback/Olive Garden for dinner

Plenty of good places in the Crossroads area of LBV for food

Spooky again

Stayed at the Comfort Inn in 1996 & 1997 on our 1st visits to the US - we then bought the apartment at Vistana in 1998 and have been back every year since then.

Went to New York last June and had another 2 weeks there again this year - don't suppose you were there also

I bought one of these (Sharp LC32GD8E) from Web electricals for £675 with a 3 yr Warranty included. To be honest I have not been that impressed. Im not an expert on LCD screens but from my research this screen seemed to be the best value screen at the moment.

However I have it connected through a Telewest box (SCART) and the picture quality is rubbish. Im sure thats due to the telewest signal, but the picture looks like the sort of quality you get on YouTube.com or Metacafe.com. It looks ok from the other side of the room, however my old CRT telly gave a better picture from close range. I tried using a DVD today though a SCART and the picture was good. Still not totally excited like some of the people in these forums about the picture quality. Maybe when i see some true HDTV stuff I might change my tune.

The picture issue/quality is only second place to the real annoyance. The sound out of this telly is really poor. Everything is fine until a certain tone/frequency of sound comes out of the speaker, then the whole back panel on the screen vibrates and interferes with the sound. I have had a similar problem on a £75 portable from ASDA. Its as if the casing at the back of the screen needs some sound deadening. So I have been fairly hacked off when I hear this vibrating noise, but even more so that other people have started to point it out. I have tried putting the Tv on the ground and tighten the stand screws but his has made no difference. Reducing the bass does not resolve this problem either.

If anyone knows how to set this TV up to resolve these issues please let me know. I still believe it is a good TV.....It surely cannot be as bad as what Im experiencing !

Just thought Id update my last post. I contacted Sharp about the crap sound. They held their hands up immediately and admitted there was a known issue with some sets. They send out an engineer who fitted a small rubber buffer thing around the speakers and this resolved the problem. Id have to say that the service from Sharp was spot on and now I am delighted with the set although I still think LCD tvs without an HD signal are a waste of time as the picture is not as good as a CRT. Anyway they do look better!
