Unable to receive picture messages

Hi there. Since feb I've had the motorola slvr with o2 pay as you go. However, I have never been able to receive picture messages (or all MMS). Yesterday I got an LG Chocolate and have tried to set it up for o2. I have been able to get the browser to work fine but, as with the SLVR, I still cannot receive picture messages. Here's what happens:

I've been sending MMS' to myself to see if it is working properly, they seem to send ok but when I get notification on my phone that I have a new message, it simply redirects me online and then "Sorry, The requested item could not be loaded! (Status Code: 500)" appears. This is exactly the same message as I got when trying to view them on my old phone too.

The thing I don't understand is that I've been using the same sim card for 2 years now and was able to send and receive picture messages fine with my Sony phone which I had before the slvr.

Here are my settings:

Homepage: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Bearer: GPRS
(GPRS SETTINGS) APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
username: payandgo
password: Password
(PROXY SETTINGS): On
IP Address: 193.113.200.195
Port: 9201
DNS Settings: #empty#

Any ideas why I'm not able to receive picture messages properly (both on my LG KG800 and Motorola SLVR)?

Thanks.

I can send and receive MMS messages fine on my SLVR. I have the following settings - so if you match yours to mine you should have it working...

Main Menu > Messages > Menu Button > Inbox Setup > MMS Message Setup

'Composing MMS'
Autosignature: *Empty*
Expire After: 5 Days
Reply Type: Multimedia Msg
Creation Mode: Restricted

Press Back <

'Receiving MMS'
Home Download: Automatic
Roam Download: Always Ask
Filter: *Empty*
Delivery Repor: Never Send
Hidden Sender: Accept Messages

Press Back <

'Server Info'
O2 MMS should be ticked in here
Click the Menu Button on 'O2 MMS'
Click Edit
Service Name: O2 MMS
Server Name: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Web Session Name: O2 WAP GPRS

Now follow these steps:
Open your WAP browser
Scroll down to Web Sessions
Select O2 WAP GPRS and press the Menu Button on this
Click on Edit
Name: O2 WAP GPRS
Homepage: http://wap.o2.co.uk
Service Type 1: *Empty*
Proxy 1: 193.113.200.195
Port: 8080
Everything else is empty apart from:
Port 2: 0
DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
DNS 2: 000.000.000.000
Timeout: 15 minutes
GPRS APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
User Name: payandgo
Password: password

That's it, should work fine now. And rememeber to use lower case letters where needed.

Hi there. Thanks for the reply I looked at your settings and compared them with mine and they are exactly the same, unfortunately.

I have an option on my new phone called "push message". When this is off, I do not receive any indication at all that a media message has been sent to my phone. When it is on I get redirected to a wap site which then just tells me the item cannot be displayed.

How long have you had your sim? have you had o2 provision your sim for mms?

I've had it since December 2004. I got it when I got my Sony k700i and picture messages worked fine then. I found a number that you can text o2 on to activate mms so i'll see if that works.

If the settings are correct, you may need to provision your phone for picture messaging (MMS). To do this, call 2425 (Bolt-Ons) free from your mobile. On the menu select option 1 and then option 2 "to provision your mobile for picture messaging". Follow the instructions from there to activate it on your mobile. I think it can take up to 48 hours to activate once you have done this.

Hope it works.

Thanks I called the number but it says that picture messaging has already been provisioned. I don't know if that's because I've already text or not. Anyway, if this doesn't work should I just call up o2 and ask them?

Did you get an automated reply to the text you sent? If it hasn't been activated within about 48 hours, maybe you should ring O2 as I can't see what the problem is if the settings are all correct and MMS has been provisioned on your account. I think you can call 4445 from your PAYG phone for O2 Customer Services. I think this might cost to ring this number though. It might be 20p per minute but I'm not sure.

If you didn't want to call, you could email through the form on their website instead. I have found that they are very quick at replying to emails when I have emailed them before, although I have no experience of their service on the phone.

Hope this helps.

Yes, the reply confirmed i'd asked for mms to be provisioned and but it could take upto 48 hours. I'll wait 2 days then I'll check it again, if it's still not working i'll contact o2. Thanks for the help everyone.

Hopefully it should start working after 48 hours then. If not, a call or email to O2 should fix it.

Hope you can get it sorted out.
