Hi,

I would be grateful for any input and views.

I am currently looking at which Tv to get, I wanna spend about £1500.

Now the 2 tv's I have boiled down too are the Panasonic 36" Tau and the Sony 41" KP41DS1.

As far as I can tell;

Sony KP41DS1
+'s
Bigger screen, Intergrated Digital, true full wide meaning better DVD viewing (BTW seems a wider ration to me compared to panny or maybe cause it doesnt have a black border)

-'s
Some would say Rear Projection Image
Low Brightness and angled viewing
50hz

Panasonic 36" PF10
+'s
Clear Crystal tube image, Pic-in-Pic for AV, 100hz
good zoom features

-'s
NO Intergrated Digital, I hate the black border around the screen. Has a slight processed image look although this may be due to the fact the shop had a crap aerial signal to it.

Heeelllpppppppppp MEEEEeeeee PLEASE!!

I dont know which to get, on one side I like the tubes superior image yet with the Sony im getting bigger for the bucks and I want the IDtv with out having to get a box or subscribe (normal free to view digital will do me).

Then comes the issue of 50Hz or 100Hz, I have to say watching tv in the shop on the sony I didnt notice any flicker at all.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

you could do worse than either buy this magazine or surf their web site:

Personally, I would say the Panasonic must and will always give a better picture, CRTs always give sharper detail than any projection system. The Sony will look good from a reasonable distance, but you can't sit up close or at a wide range of angles, otherwise you get a poor picture. The Panasonic will have a far wider viewing range.

Having an intergrated digital receiver is not necessairly a good thing right now, Digital TV is progressing, so it won't be as future proofed as you might think, plus if (and when) the digital receiver fails, then you lose the whole TV set. Ask a TV engineer what they think about inbuilt digital receivers and you'll get an idea of what Im saying - most hate them ! (dont ask a TV salesman mind you!)

Look at various digital or TV forums and see the troubles some people are having with IDTV, they don't get software updates anywhere near as often as do set top box owners do, (and they get updates fairly often as new services are introduced)

What exactly do you mean by the Sony having a true widescreen? as it's exactly the same ratio (16/9) as any other widescreen tv set? and does the 1 cm black border around the screen really annoy that much? you wont notice it when you're watching TV I'm sure.

At the end of the day, both TV's give a good performance, go to an independent TV dealer rather than Currys or COmet and get a more realistic opinion. I sell alsorts of TV set and actually discourage selling Intergrated digital TV sets right now, even though I'd make more cash out of it, BUT I know how much more trouble I will get if I sell them, especially as most people assume that they will instantly get 15 more free channels (in an area that has terrible OnDigital coverage!)

You pays you money and takes your choice... do lots of research as you'll get what's best for you.

Panasonic (for the 100hz option).

Although I would consider a similar Sony model with 100Hz instead.
