hmm - no mention of how many scarts (presumably at least one or you wouldn't get a free lead!) and whether any of them are RGB/S-video capable...

presumably as it doesn't mention freeview it will be 2 analog tuners? rather than 1 of each..

What you've got to remember now days is it's not who makes the componets but the software that drives them, for example SONY LCD's use samsung panels, but the software gives more control over the brightness settings than samsung LCD's software does..! Also remember the big brand names have a lot more money to throw at software engineers than the small companies have..! You get what you pay for..!! That said I did once own a Aldi plasma TV for 11 month's and it was not bad, limited software wise but not bad..!!

Tevion do not have a good rep with previous LCD and Plasma Aldi offerings but with a no penalty warranty that probably gives you the peace of mind to purchase a "cheap" display with some reassurance.

As okuda says the panel itself may be decent (or a two/three year old design) who knows but that is only one part, the electronics that drive the panel and the software that interfaces with that is just as important and that is where cash can be saved.
A cheap scaler/de-interlacer can do far more damage to the final PQ then last years design of LCD panel.

I tried the information phone number they gave but it just asks for a voicemail code number. Not a good start if they wish to impress potential customers.

Spec sounds pretty good (although I'm no expert on these things), its a shame there is no price. Hard to judge if its a bargin without a price.

I guess it's just to hype up the potential buyers interest.

Not true HD. True HD is 1920x1080p (Not many of those out over here yet. Toshiba and Sony are the only one's I believe and they start at 42" upwards for that resolution).

A friend of mine works as a Manager of an Aldi store near me, although he hasn't had 'official' confirmation on the price of this set he's heard a rumour' the powers that be are considering retailing the set @ £799.

Personally I don't believe the rumour is true....wish it is but I'd guess £999 also.

True HD is a phrase SONY marketing invented to pimp the PS3 over the Xbox360

I suppose in terms of display the ultimate given the current accepted HD standards will be a 1920*1080 display that accepts 1080p source material.

I was giving it serious consideration...until I saw that there was no built in digital tuner- what is the point of paying for technology that will be obsolete in some areas with 12 months?? Would digital tuners have added much to the cost? After all you can buy freeview boxes for 20 quid now.

Hmmmm sorry I don't see your point, you have Sky+ & another freeview yet you won't buy this TV because it doesn't have a £20 digital tuner ?

Im sure your just kidding right

Absolutely not-I can't send a direct digital output from either, so all I'd be getting is a twice converted picture on the screen (digital to analogue when sent out of the box, re-converted to digital when it gets to the TV).
The point is, for a large chunk of the country, a key part of the technology of this and any other piece of kit sold with analogue only tuners, will become obsolete within 2 years-and that should not be allowed
